I never used to phone my daughter or family from Thailand as it was to expensive but they used to phone me every weekend.

Well Chas,
I don't mind admitting that I would be absolutely fuked if the Internet died.
Especially for my travels as I do all my research on line, obtain first hand info and recommendations, book all my airfares at a very hefty discount , pay all my bills, keep in contact with distant friends and all my direct debits are recorded on line for my viewing.
I simply could not imagine being without the Internet long term.
OH yes, I could not interact with all the top punters on Teakdoor and post up my lovely picture threads.

Crime would go up. People would have to face each other. Our energy problems might be over, we might have enough for other things. Attention spans would start growing again. Adults and children would stop taking as much medicine. Radio would come back along with roller skating nightclubs. People wouldn't be thinking about things on the other side of the world as much. Newspapers would come back and more mom and pop coffee shops would pop up. Corporations would lose their grip. The tech gurus would be poor again. Just depends on how much tech we lose, just the net or computers and the rest of it.
^ Merely the net... Bite your tongue.
You'd lose all banking functions and quite possibly billions of dollars of transfers would be lost. Traffic lights, GPS, warehouse ordering systems, immigration departments, emergency services etc would cease to function.
Much of modern life depends on the Internet. If Al Qaeda could take out a satellite or two it would make 9/11 look like kindergarten.
Al Gore would blame it on global warming. But we wouldn't know.
