I am against the EU; bigger government, less transparency, more corruption, an entire layer of Euro MPs skimming off their cut... The myth that you need a Euro government to enable Euro trade is just that, a myth...

I saw it as increase opportunity and adapted to allow the rules to suit me. I would like to think that it will broaden the horizons of future generations rather than feed the fears of those like piwanoi.
Great idea in theory but an absolute shambles in practice. Just been a great exercise for Euro MP's to collectivize, homogenize, and cash in.

The UK would be nuts to leave the EU, for all it's faults. It would leave the UK economy perilously vulnerable.

I was never a fan but as said - it's to late, time have worked against the "EU or Not" question. that question of being against has become moot, the question is for the Nation States to change and adjust the EU within the system if they have any gripes, and that is as far as it goes.
If the UK was to "outright leave" without some form of very long term withdrawal agreement, it would spell an absolute economic disaster for the UK, no matter the fancy-full lies the xenophobic Euro sceptics in UK tell, just over 50% (I think it is?) of the UK trade goes to EU, they would be 27 member country's to soak up the loss between them, UK would have to eat it alone, and it would take UK a very very long time, if ever, to recuperate in the part of the world that is outside EU, make no mistake if UK outright leaves - the rest will retaliate with trade/customs, economic and travel restrictions etc. ect. for the damage done, and not least also to discourage others from ever getting the same idea, you would be able to wipe your ass with almost worthless pound-notes very quickly.
The EU GDP is after-all by IMF 2012 rankings the biggest in the world, and with a size like that comes a lot of clout, in some places they repeatedly try to ignore that fact, and refuse to count the EU as one economic entity, and hanging doggedly on to the individual Nation numbers, and trying desperately to pretend the EU is not there ruining their old world view and understanding, but that is about as futile and slightly ridiculous as the French still refusing to acknowledge English as the main communication language in the west.
It's unfortunate EU was ever invented, but now we have no choice but to live with it.

That's not a good argument because there is quite a number of EU states with more exports to non-EU countries than within the EU, the reason is, the rest of the world is bigger. You don't import far more from the EU than you export there because you want to do them a favour, but because your manufacturing sector is small, and your consumers want German cars and Italian luxury goods. You've got an immigration problem that might or not have been caused by the EU; rather not because Pakistan is not in it, but you don't want to pay more for a Mercedes either. You could of course join Norway and the Swiss in the European free trade zone to avoid import taxes, but you would be out of the decision making in Europe. Who else will come up with bizarre regulations like that homosexuals can obtain asylum if they're persecuted in their countries, we wouldn't think of that. :)Quote:
