I want a pool but my budget says no to building one. A mate has put me onto above ground pools by Intex. I'm looking at the 15ft by 42in metal framed one.

I intend cementing over some land and building a deck around the pool, so it will be a permanent fixture. Does anyone have any experience with these types of pool?

Wouldn't want to drain it. There isn't a liner, it's a 3 ply sheet sort of thing - bit like a tarp. That's what I'm a bit concerned about - is it strong enough for all year round use?Quote:

I have had crabs before, nasty experiance that was, I feel your growths are probably worse though :)
you should consider the foam siding that goes in against the walls before you install the liner. it cost a bit extra but if you get a hole in the out side metal it could save your pool liner. I have had a lot of experiance with this type of above ground pool. make sure you sit it ontop of cement. also bevel the sand at the bottom where the floor meets the walls other wise your kids or drunk friend might accedintaly put there big fat toe through the liner . consider putting some kind of dome netting over the top to keep the leafs out and provide some shade. stay ontop of the chemicals during the rainy season or it will turn -green -green -green and the only way to get it off the liner is to -scrub -scrub -scrub

Just researching above ground pools and have found two Thai based companies.
1.www.pattayapools.net
This company claims to be an authorised dealer/supplier for Intex above ground pools. They want paying upfront before delivery.
When i checked with Intex for a list of authorised Thai suppliers they only came up with one:

They also want money before delivery and the website is not as detailed or helpful as pattaya pools.
I am guessing that pattaya pools opereates from said location but the other firm only have an email contact address so no idea where they are based.
Have any members had dealings with these companies or do you have any info on credibility/trustworthyness?

My mate has had dealings with toyznet for quite a few years and says they are reliable. I'm not really sure, but I think they're based in Korat.
BTW in the end I had to shelve the pool as some new bastard neighbours built a 3 floor monstrosity adjacent to the orchard where I was planning to have the pool, leaving it in total shade and lacking any privacy.

Just a plunge bath for really hot days. My neighbour has one and it drives me nuts to hear the splashing and screeching while i sweat and roast in my garden.:)
Looking at the Pattaya Pools web-site - they seem quite good value.
But how are the access steps supported inside the pool -- won't there be a liability to puncture the lining?
Ring em up or email and ask em. They seem quite friendly.
My mate found a firm in Phuket who supply intex pools at more or less same prices. It would be fairly straightforward job to drive over and collect in a pick up. (From where i am)
He spoke to the owner and he seemed quite willing to negotiate to get a sale.

I am now looking at moving house to a bungalow on a pool complex, for similar money to what i am paying now, giving up a second bedroom for the convenience of a proper pool.
I'm working in Bangladesh at the moment, but will be back in Pattaya soon. Then I'll drop in for a view - see what preparation (such as a solid base) I need to prepare. I don't have your choices, as we own our own house and have kids - so I'm pretty well stuck with what I have.Quote:

Good luck with the project. Some of those websites have useful Q&A bits with advice about longevity, chemical use, shade, cleaning etc.
I handled a claim in Greece a few years ago.
Brit ExPat with a nice villa near Corinth with a very large above ground pool.
Came home one night with a few friends to find a couple of people trying to break into the house.
They were trying to lever the patio doors open with a rather large machette !!
Enraged ExPats gave chase through the back garden .
One would be thief threw the machette at the angry chaps chasing them .
Missed them but hit the pool wall.
It split from top to bottom with the weight of water and the resulting tsunami took out the patio doors and completely flooded the ground floor before draining away into the basement cellar !!!

Paid up on that one - about 14,000 GBP .
Couldn't pay up on 'breaking and entering' as the buggers never actually got in the house.
Found a loophole though !
The house was insured through a company policy as an asset of the company that the chap worked for .
Their factory had experienced some damage a few years before during a strike and had a RSMD ( Riot Strike Malicious Damage ) endorsement added to their policy !
That covered it ! :)
