Over-qualified cleaner

I met this Korean girl last week and she got drunk and gave it up on our first date.

I suggested that she might want to make some money by cleaning my house since she is a student and she has got a car and I need a cleaner. She seemed happy with the idea and said she would come back this weekend.

She had also made a mystery of her previous job and I have been guessing unsuccessfully by SMS all week.

She rocked up yesterday and pushed the hoover round the house for 20 minutes before complaining that it did not work properly and then jumping in the pool and spending the rest of the afternoon drinking my beer.

She gave me a clue at one point in the conversation that she worked in a hospital. I guessed every job from nurse to registrar before she told me she is an MD! She has 6 years of medical school, 8 years in ER in Seoul and is now trying to get her English exam to move to Aussie.

However after her half-hearted efforts with the hoover and drinking all my beer I may have to fire her from her cleaning job.

Sometimes just go up and chat to them if they are alone. But mostly through internet dating and social networking sites. It's not really that many I don't think but the ones I do meet tend to have something funny about them worth posting, not sure why that is.

She has a 3 year old son (she only told me lastnight). She says once a woman has a kid no Korean man will marry her. She wants to take her son to Australia (he is with granny in Seoul just now) and start a new life where single mothers are not so stigmatised.

On a serious note...

Tell her to do the OET test not the IELTS for immigration purposes. Tell her the reverse if you like her.

I was not aware that they had a choice. I have only heard of IELTS. OET = Oxford English Test?

The IELTS one seems to be quite hard and the girls seem to have to sit it many times before they can get a pass. I thought an MD would get a concession on the required 7.0 score seeing as they are in short supply (especially outside major cities) but she reckons not. I have not investigated yet.

Nope, no concessions but they do desperately want her. The IELTS score was raised 4/5 years ago from 6.5 to 7.0. Impooossibly high.

But, health care professionals can enter with the right occupational englihs tset [OET]. I have the materials but i think you can download easily enough from here.

Warn her not to overuse the materails as they are hard to come by.

So it would seem that OET may be easier than IELTS then? That would be great news if so as her English is probably not up to IELTS 7.0 in my amateur opinion. She has her first attempt this weekend so we will find out.

It is largely based on the IELTS structure and some would say harder as it definitely uses vocational language and situations so if you are serious and have experience it can be an huge advantage. Works for the applicant works for Aust immigration. In this area only.

As i mentioned in the pm, it was an avenue but see no mention of this now. I know this as i worked for an Aust immigration council associated with them. Would be surprised if it has changed but immigration, policy and Australia is in a constant state of flux.

She has drank her salary in pale ale and stout already and she has had to be fired from her cleaning job due to blaming her tools so no enquiry to answer.
