My cousin will be studying abroad in London next semester. I will fly out on the 22nd of Feb. and will be in London all day Friday and then take a flight to Amsterdam that night and stay there for two days. We'll eventually end up in Prague for three days.
I would like to see London's major tourist sites on Friday. To view Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Globe Theater, what form of transportation would you recommend? Should I use the subway, buses, taxi, etc.?
The Tube, mate. (A subway is a pedestrian underpass). I think you can get an all day pass, but it's prolly about 50 quid nowadays. Oh, and take shit loads of money, too.
If you're into museums, the British Museaum and the Natural History are excellent.
I agree with Marmers. Get yoursaelf a tube map and a day travel card. It wont cost anything like 50 squid. More like 9 squid or less. There is loads to see in London so plan your day and take your own lunch. Know that the tube map you get is not at all a good geographical representation of London.
Dont try and see it all in one day.
The Prague bit sounds interesting. Any chance of another travelblog of your journey nj?

I thought England was famous for it's cheap, late night curry shops, in the same way Chinese takeout or Mexican burritos are in the US.
Visiting Prague isn't set in stone. It seems like the place college kids in the US like to go to, so I'd figure he would enjoy it. I would actually prefer to visit Italy or Germany. Maybe give Fabian a ring and scare his poor wife when she sees two shifty Indian blokes at her doorstep.:smokin::bandit: (can't find the "two shifty Indian blokes" smiley)
Do the Prague thing desi. The gals are hot. So I am told. Both Germany and Italy are well expensive.
Actually there are some cheap eats up west in Londres but you gotta know where to go. Do you like salt pork sandwiches?
The Cap prolly knows London better than I, as I didn't go there very often. I think you'll find the cheap curry houses are everywhere but the centre of the city, as everything is well expensive there.
If you're only doing the one day, forget the museums, as you could spend the whole day at either of the ones I suggested, but you might want to have a nose down Oxford Street to do a bit of Chrimbo shopping.
Or better still; feck London off and just go to Prague - that's what I would do.

Go to Brick Lane in east london for a good indian.
The pass for tubes and buses is Ok, but for a newbie in town I would think that those stupid open top bus tours are the best way to see things.
Go to Westminster, get a ticket for one of the bus companies (about 15 squids). You can ride any open top bus, get off, get on when you want. They go to all the most popular crap tourist thingies, like you listed.
If it is pissing with rain, the British Museum is wonderful, stuffed full of stolen artifacts from all over the world, great looters the Brits.
You can get curries almost anywhere, and even in the centre are not overpriced (for London) but there you have to choose carefully to avoid the pricey ones. Brick Lane is good, but a bit far for a one day visit.

I'll probably just pack a button down shirt from Xpress and a pair of matching pants. That is usually good enough for most clubs in NY/NJ. How strict are the London clubs with their dress code?
depends on which club really. Some will not let you in unless you are naked.
actually, most are just fine, you can wear what you like. There are some really trendy places where they expect you to be similar, but it will then depend on the night and how full they are. eternal pragmatists those club managers
Along the Thames river is the National Maritime Museum. There is a clock room with a couple of intricate and delicate clocks which I found interesting. I like contraptions. The Royal Observatory Greenwich is located on the same grounds if I remember right.

Enough of all this about posh west end clubs. Get yourself over to Metropolis on Hackney Road, and watch some girls get naked and dirty on stage.
Went there with a mate once who was a bit s-l-o-w. He kept shouting get 'em off, as if the girls had any intention of keeping them on.

You can buy with a credit card either from a machine or at the ticket kiosk but you will need a pin number for the card.
Depends a bit on the time of day NJD. If it is the rush hour it might be just as easy to get out at Leicester Square and walk to Tottenham Court Road.
Trying to change tube trains during the rush can be a pretty horrible experience.
An alternative would be to catch the train to Paddington (Heathrow Express Link)

That train goes non-stop and as is faster and more comfortable, then you take the Bakerloo (brown) line to Oxford Circus and change to the Central Line (Red) to Tottenham Court Road.
I'd take the Express route and cut out the tube as much as possible.

I am having a bit of sticker shock looking at the prices. $26 for a one way ticket! What a ripoff. I don't wonder anymore why my cousin is broke after only three months of living in London!
