Where do thoughts come from?
It has been a hard day at the office here but the computers hadn't screwed up too much today so, in an idle moment I thought to myself,
"where do my thoughts come from?"
And then I thought, 'hold on' where did that thought come from.
You see the problem? It's sort of recursive - but ultimately there must be an original 'thought source'.
I am not talking about basic functions here, like, 'I need a piss so I'll go to the loo', 'I am hungry, food would be a good idea, or even 'she is drop dead gorgeous - I'd give her one'. I'm talking about.. well stuff you don't 'think' about but just pops into one's head.
Ah! Ah! - I thought, I'll consult the fount of knowledge that is the Teak Door forum, there are some pretty clever chaps out there and I'm sure they will have already thought about this and know the answer.
You see, if there was an originating thought from which all subsequent thoughts could be derived then from that you could argue there is a causal chain. But you still have the problem of where the initial thought arose from.
Let us say there is no casual chain and 'thoughts' are spontaneous. That really bodes well for the future of humanity as it would appear, by that conjecture, we are merely creatures of wanton chance.
Yet, did pure simple chance bring this forum into existence? Of course not - but where did the originating thought arise to create this forum?
As I have said, it has been a hard day at the office and these musings bring a little sparkle to a rather mundane life - until I hit the UK equivalent of Lao Kao that is, then my mind is flooded by a veritable plethora of quite amazing thoughts.
