i took lessons daily, 2 hours a day for 3 weeks until i pulled a rotator cuff tendon on my shoulder.
it involves stretching into seemingly impossible positions and then holding those positions and it involves breathing control.
you also find yourself in close proximity to sweating women bending themselves into wonderful poses, with their leotards stretched provocatively over breasts, camel toes and assorted delectable clefts just bursting to get out.
within a week of starting i felt much fitter and healthier in ways that is difficult to explain and i am someone who swims and exercises regularly and i dont eat shite or touch alcohol.
i just felt "better", i slept easier and had a wonderful shit right after breakfast every day even though my diet hadnt changed.
the teacher would go on and on about the spirituality of yoga, but as a yorkshireman and cynic i found that side of it hard to take in, i just went along with it for the physical benefits, but it certainly worked on a mental level too.
i would recommend it, but not at one of the increasingly common dancercise yoga classes, thats just regular exercise, although you might meet some fit minge, i dont think its real yoga.
try and find a teacher or class that uses hatha yoga.
our teacher eventually left to start a school up in the hills around chiang mai, she comes back now and again for weekends in her condo and does her moves on the lawn in the mornings, but i stopped when my shoulder went and its not something that i can do by myself, well i could, but i'm a bit lazy, yoga is hard work and without someone pushing me i lapsed !
