Silverlake Vineyard is turning its 1,200-rai vineyard and winery complex in Chon Buri into a world-class music destination, with a new company to plan events and activities.
"About 10 major concerts featuring local and international artists and bands will be organised by the new company every year," Surachai Tangjaitrong, who started the vineyard six years ago, said yesterday.Surachai is also president of Silverlake Entertainment, which he set up with JSS Production, owned by Jesada Pattanatabut.
Jesada has been involved in the local music industry for 25 years and will be in charge of technical production of the concerts.
Silverlake is investing Bt150 million to build a 2,500-seat amphitheatre, 1,200-square-metre concert hall and 32-room four-star hotel.
The company is also talking to an investor from Russia about purchasing 100 rai at Silverlake for a water park to be developed and designed by White Water from Canada. The water-park project is now seeking BOI privileges.
Silverlake has planted about 400 rai of the 1,200-rai complex with a dozen varieties of table grapes, which are on sale at a tented reception area, together with fresh grape juice, jam and other items.
They are experimenting with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to make wines after the harvest in March 2006. They can produce about 30,000 bottles of wine annually.
The vineyard draws about 1,000 visitors on weekdays and up to 3,000 per day on weekends.
"We will spend Bt30 million to construct a 2,500-seat permanent amphitheatre on 45 rai of our vineyard complex with completion by the end of this year," Surachai said.
The amphitheatre will host big concerts for 7,000-8,000 ticketholders, with some of them sitting on the open lawn.
Construction on the Bt50-million hotel, with an Italian Tuscany design, and the Bt12-million concert hall, which would host classical concerts as well as private parties, would start in May and finish by the end of this year.
The first big concert - "Kitaro-The Silk Road, East & West Live at Silverlake Vineyard, Pattaya" - would be staged on March 26, with 4,000-4,500 music lovers expected.
"We are negotiating with many well-known artists, such as Larry Carlton, Diana Krall and Earth Wind and Fire, to perform at our Silverlake complex. We also plan to organise a two-day world music festival in the beginning of February next year," he said.
