Phuket Crime: List of Expats Charged, and Victims

WHEN the Governor of Phuket meets Phuket's honorary consuls on Monday, the following list of expat arrests and expats who are victims of crime will be presented.
The year 2010 will be remembered mostly for the killing of a bar girl by American Ronald Fanelli, and the knifing of American DaShawn Longfellow, allegedly by British kick boxer Lee Aldhouse.
Fanelli, having been examined by psychiatrists and declared sane, has yet to go to trial. Extradition proceedings to bring Aldhouse back from Britain to stand trial are still underway.
A road rage altercation that led to the stabbing of German Wolf-Dieter Kesselheim saw his killer jailed for 13 years and four months before the year was over.
For the entire year, Phuket police recorded expats as perpetrators in 156 cases. They were victims on 28 occasions, officers say.
The latter portion of 2010 and the early weeks of 2011 have passed without murders involving expats as accused or victims. Only relatively minor crimes have been recorded, with a sprinkling of assaults and drug cases.
The laying of a charge does not suggest that the accused will be found guilty.
It is hoped that at some time in the future, as the reporting process by police becomes more complete, results of cases may also be published.
