An assistant village headman of Ban Kura in Pattani’s Mae Lan district was shot and seriously injured on Saturday afternoon, Mae Lan police chief Pol Col Kamthorn Chanthee said.

Abdulnasae Baekor, 51, was riding his motorcycle on a local road in his village when two men on anther motorcycle called him to stop.

The assistant village chief stopped his vehicle and turned to talk to the two men.

The man sitting on pillion took out a pistol and shot him twice in the head and fled, according to Pol Col Kamthorn.

He was admitted Pattani hospital.

Police were investigating.
