While the government denies that they are connected with the oil spill, there have been massive fishkills in Louisiana (and see this). Oil can be seen at fishkill sites (and see this), and the EPA has discovered high levels of nickel near the biggest fishkill. There have also been kills of starfish and other sea animals, including whales and dolphins:





And see this.

Here are a couple of headlines on the issue since then courtesy of Florida Oil Spill Law:

• DISPERSED OIL accumulates in menhaden fish found during massive kills, “MOST LIKELY” going to be “FATAL” — Filter feeder’s mouth “ringed with oil-like chocolate”

• Official: “We have NEVER seen large fish kills like this” NEVER this frequency PRIOR to the spill
  

• Local Official: “Millions of fish, absolutely, millions” have died in recent fishkills

• Local officials “UNCONVINCED” with State’s explanation that oil had nothing to do with huge fish kills — Taking samples to build their case

• Official: 100 local fisherman say “NO WAY” massive fish kills from just low oxygen — “ALL areas happen to have HEAVY OIL”

• “What the hell is going on in the water” says local official, “begging” feds for more tests on fish kills — “We’ve never seen so many species floating in so many different areas”

• State biologist claims massive fish kills “are NOT a concern” — Then says could be from oil-eating microbes, “I don’t know”
  

• Fisherman finding dead fish of “species they have NEVER SEEN BEFORE”
  

• State officials did NO TESTING on any dead fish from the FOUR major kills near oil-impacted areas

The fishkill shots were taken on September 19th at Bayou Robinson, and the oil shots were taken the same day in Bay Jimmy.

Dermansky notes that the state authorities have subsequently relented, and have conducted at least some minimal testing after all.

Must of been a big sugar barge that sunk, Obama should take lessons from Thai politicians.

Those are some seriously disturbing photos. If I were of a religious bent I'd say someone was trying to get Pharaoh's attention.

^ It's just more propaganda. The enviros in California stopped the water supply to farmers and killed many businesses to protect some minnow fish -- did that work? Face it, animals have become extinct or have morphed since time began. There are disasters, both man-made and natural, all the time. We learn from them and try to improve situations. Continually blasting people and businesses who provide jobs and keep the economy going is not the answer. I'm waiting for the enviros to dream up a reason to blame people for natural disasters like volcanic eruptions. And, if Al Gore is so worried about sea levels, why did he just buy a $9 MIL home on Malibu beach? Bunch of hypocrites. Now the lefties are complaining about a new type of salmon bred to grow at a much faster pace. Well, if the world pop keeps growing, we need to do something to feed the masses. DDT was banned so malaria found a new hold and now the world is infested with bedbugs, too.

A huge fish kill in a Lousiana marsh was likely caused by annual low-oxygen conditions—but the Gulf oil spill may have been an additional "insult," experts say.
The thousands of belly-up fish were discovered Friday in the Bayou Chaland area (see map) of Plaquemines Parish.
The die-off occurred during a time of year when a giant low-oxygen "dead zone" regularly forms off the Gulf, according to Prosanta Chakrabarty, a fish biologist at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

The body of water where the fish kill occurred becomes isolated during periods of low tide, which may have trapped the fish in a low-oxygen area, said Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spokesperson Olivia Watkins.
Even so, "fish kills are not uncommon in this area, and if in fact this area was cut off from the Gulf by low tide, these fish would have suffocated," LSU's Chakrabarty said.
