BANGKOK, 6 September 2010 (NNT) – An assassination rumor plotted against key figures of the Government and national security units is not yet confirmed, according to Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that he had ordered intelligence units to seek more information and map out preventive measures to deal with the situation. He said he still could not say anything about the assassination plot.
Mr Suthep speculated that the plot might be real but was leaked, or might be just a rumor; however, he confirmed that the Government would stay alert to this issue. He said so far there had been no reports to verify the matter.
The rumor is spreading that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Mr Suthep himself, as well as Bhumjaithai de facto leader Newin Chidchob, Army Chief General Anupong Paochinda, and Department of Special Investigation Tharit Pengdit were all on the list of assassination targets.
Asked if the emergency rule should be extended or not, the Deputy Prime Minister responded that the Government would monitor and assess the situation according to actual conditions, without taking into account any unconfirmed reports. He said the security law could be cancelled whenever the situation allows normal laws to be enforced.
Meanwhile, Opposition Pheu Thai Party Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit denounced the assassination plot. He then condemned the Government for failing to oversee the situation because unrest incidents were still instigated in areas with the state of emergency enforcement.

BANGKOK, 16 September 2010 (NNT) – Black-clad terrorist suspects really rented an apartment near Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's residence in Sukhumvit, Bangkok but they have already moved out from the place, according to Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban.
Mr Suthep confirmed the black-clad terrorist suspects issue recently reported by Metropolitan Police Chief Police General Santhan Chayanont. He, however, noted that related authorities had been assigned to investigate immediately but found out that they had already left their den.
The Deputy Prime Minister continued that related officers were monitoring movements of those ill-intentioned people closely while security measures to shield Prime Minister Abhisit from assassination attempts would be tightened.
Mr Suthep, nonetheless, shrugged off any necessity to arrange safe houses for key figures and politicians targeted in the assassination plot, especially during the gathering of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) from 17 to 19 September 2010.
The anti-government UDD plans to hold its symbolic political activities to commemorate the fourth anniversary of 19 Sep Coup d’état in many provinces across Thailand, including the capital city.
