Where can I buy train tickets?

Or do I have to go all the way to Whore Lump Pong station a few days before I depart, just to secure the tickets?

Yes I have tried the Thai Railway website and no sign of any kind of pay online service which I wouldn't want to do anyway in such a corrupt country.

travel agent ? for a small 50THB fee, they will do it for you

If you go to your local station (if you have one) you can purchase tickets there to leave Hualumpong etc.
(Bang Sue for me is a better departure point...far less crowded as well..)

Any travel agent will do this, best to do at least the day before you want the ticket(s).

of course travel agent. no standing around waiting in long queues or having to travel there
