China Picture thread.

In response to LTs very nice but entirely tourist point of view thread I thought I'd post some pics of the real China.
These are tken on Saturday in my neighbourhood on a short walkabout.
my son was ill so it was a short walk but this'll give you an idea.
I hope to continue this thread with pics from other areas as time goes by.
Leaving the apartment, walking down the driveway.
The vast majority live in apartments, only farmers and the filthy rich live in detached houses on land..
t think the idea of having to work on the lawns gardens etc would put them off.
Contrary to popular belief they are the laziest fuckers I've ever come across.
If it doesn't involve money, it's too much effort (generally, of course)

The little girl will just be watching the shop for mum or dad.
These people do an unbelieveble job and can mend shoes you would think were beyond it for next to nothing.
They do such a good job for so little my wife always pays them double bless her heart.

The Holiday Inn. my neighbour is the food and beverage manager here. An Indian guy, we get invited to some Indian do's, You think you've had indian food untill you eat with these guys, all trying to outdo each other with the food.

I was thinking that. They've come a hell of a long way since Mao Tse Tung turned up his toes. Wonder what he would make of it all ?

You can tell a lot more about a place from pictures of day to day life than looking at the great wall or the forbidden city.

Where were the pictures taken ? Or did I miss something ?

Ask your Indian F&B Manager if he was the chef in the Beijing Holiday Inn '91 to '93... I might know him...

Thank you for an interesting post. I've been wanting to visit China but have a few questions; How difficult was it to get a visa? I've heard there are problems if you want a China visa and you are not in your home country, is that true? (I'm American living in Thailand)

The pics were taken in Zhuhai, Guandong.
We're on the border of Macau and across the bay from Hong kong.
It is between 5 and 6pm on Saturday evening. It had been a hot (35deg) day.

^^ I got a visa in Thailand and it took me about 3 days. Don't know about the cost as I didn't pay for it but I doubt it is that much

If you have a work permit add that too your list of visa application documents and Bob's ya uncle.

By the way nice thread Dug and I look forward to seeing more piccies. :)

here you have Ye Olde village and the new suburbs in one place, including the original village well still in use.

i had a problem in hanoi, vietnam as did another farang in the queue. trying to get a working visa . they said something about going back to own country and applying. like talking to a robot with a growl . am sure she was nice after work though.
ended up having it done in vientien, laos with exactly the same papers.
why ,i don't know.
tourist visa should be less of a problem.
