Electronic Cigarettes

Myself being a smoker, 1 packet a day for many years went to the doc for an annual checkup 2 weeks ago!
Doc addressed me and said that my lungs are not normal, asked me to go retrieve some old chest x-rays. Back to the doc for comparison of old and new x-rays, he informed me that a quarter of both lungs are gone, to stop smoking immediately. ( Will go for another chest exam within a month to reveal if it is progressing, well enough said, this got me thinking.)

Same day when I went home, friend advised me on this electronic cigarettes, as it is not new but, I was not aware of them . Did a bit of research and decided to get myself one. Next day had one, comes in different models, shapes and sizes. Also impressive is that it contains no TAR but, has the nicotine that us smokers are after.
Bought a second one from a local Thai guy here, and have been off smokes for near 3 weeks. This electronic smoke has different flavors and all you can choose from and produces vapor not smoke!

Not here to sell it, would like to get some inputs from all on you on this subject!!??

Waste of money your more likely to start again as it's not wheining you off nicotine at some point you got to do the cold turkey.

Not the nicotine, but the rush you get when you inhale the stuff. ZYBAN supplies you wit a sub for nicotine but no rush.
Nico dent supplies you with plenty of nicotine but no rush.
Nicoderm patches supply your system with plenty of nicotine but no rush,
You only get that rush from Inhaled and transfered to blood to your brain.
That or shooting smack,, so you will have to decide if you want to be like me in a few, damn few, short years or do you want to live a longer life without occasional and increasing dependency on an outside oxygen supply and being able to do nothing without a smothering feeling all the time??
Your choice, you can do it now and have some longer more enjoyable years, or you can wait until it is the last hope you have of avoiding a terrible death in a few short weeks.
I waited, but you are going to quit one way or the other.. but your choice,,COPD is terminal and incureable disease, but can be slowed down.

I've not heard of this before and it sounds pretty good...less tar has to be good, right. Sure you're still addicted to the nicotine, but this is progress. I'll have to investigate further. Sorry to hear about your lungs, I imagine mine are in a similar state.

There are pills that can be prescribed now to help you quit, I know a couple of people that have used them,
they're not nicotine based, but give you an aversion to nicotine, sorry I don't know the name but perhaps others can help.

I've not heard of this before and it sounds pretty good...less tar has to be good, right. Sure you're still addicted to the nicotine, but this is progress. I'll have to investigate further. Sorry to hear about your lungs, I imagine mine are in a similar state.

If you really interested have a local guy here that sell a locally made one, does not look nice but, it smokes better than the one this guy has on his site, still not good to be addicted to nicotine but, hey all those harmful chemicals.

Since i been on this, feel quite good, breathe easier and do not smell of smoke any more, tried a puff of a normal smoke, tastes like crap.

This guy above has a following on face book, the local guy here is quite expensive so i have just ordered some liquid and an extra smoke from China, can let anybody know info if they want to.

Will get getting use to but, you should be able to smoke this any where as you just exhale vapor, no smoke!

Champix tablets contain the active ingredient varenicline, which is a medicine used to help people who are addicted to nicotine to give up smoking. It acts in the brain, but is not the same as nicotine replacement therapy.

Are you in medicine? Seems to know what you talking about... Have you tried the these tablets?

I quit with Champix after smoking 20-40 day for 15 years ish, haven't had one cigarette now since last Songkran.

It still takes some will power but definitely works.

From all I can find from surfing around is that there is some question about cancer and other shit in them that is also in regular cigarettes, but it does not say they are better or worse than the real thing, and I am not worried about cancer, it will just kill you in a matter of time and then that all she wrote.
Which killing me does not worry me as we all got to go sometime, but being in a shape where I will have to depend on someone else to do for me while I am alive is the part that worries me.
I am at that point where it will not be long until I will be in a shape where I can not live alone any longer and will need people to do for me the things I can not do anymore.
I can do what needs to be done, but it takes longer, I can not run down to the store and buy a sack of salt and be back before the spuds need to be turned or they will burn.
Heavy lifting and moving stuff has to be done by someone else and it is a shame because of my lungs that are now starting to effect my heart are the only things wrong with me, the rest of my body is as good as when I was 20 years old, joints work fine and not a thing wrong that would keep me from doing a steady job if necessary. All my problems were brought on by smoking cigs til I was 73 years old and breathing contaminated air all my life.
Some my age are having trouble with Prostate and liver and bowels, can't eat this or that, Jesus Christ I still have a fine appetite, eat any god damn thing I want, when I want,, Chili con carne for breakfast still does the job and not hung up on Milk Toast.
I sleep all night, most of my friends complain about have to get up to piss a couple a times a nite.
I piss and have a good bowel movement at about 0630 every morning, so am OK there, only thing is I find it impossible to wake up before about 0800. seems I need more sleep now..:)

To add you get different nicotine levels, high, medium ,low and 0%. So trying from medium, then to low and then to just 0%.

The pills you talking about make you literally sick! Have some friends that took these tablets and they say it made them puke, fever and much more!

So far this is helping me as i can breath better, smell better, taste better.....sounds like little red raiding hood...lol

I tried everything in the world,, and to quit smoking, you have to quit putting them in your mouth and lighting them on fire.
same with quitting booze only harder,, no such thing as taper off,, you either quit or you don't.
So quit bullshitting yourself, cause you can not bullshit any of us that have finally quit.

Not bulshitting you or anybody, stopped drinking 2 years now and that was piss in a bucket!

Just sharing something with you people! Not touched a smoke in 3 weeks now! So i doubt i am bulshitting myself now!

Giving up smoking is probably the greatest challenge I have ever attempted and I am ashamed to say I have failed twice.

Blackgang once advised me in no uncertain manner that the worst time to give up is when it is too late and those words still ring in my ears.

I too need something to give me a boost, yes I am a weak cvnt but it is a fact and I like the sound of the products that have been mentioned here.

My dad quit smoking too, about like you guys, he started putting a pinch of snoose in his lower lip, called Copenhagen snoose Candy,, when he died he had cancer coming on his lower lip,
Ya see he never quit either, just changed it for something else..
And they will never find anything to keep you from smoking or make quitting easier because the only thing you need is not nicotine but the brain rush when you light up, Thats why you can't quit smack,, no rush from methadone.

A brief overview of smoking and nicotine addiction

Nicotine is a drug that is inhaled from the tobacco in cigarettes. It gets into the bloodstream, and stimulates the brain. Most regular smokers are addicted to nicotine.

If you are a smoker, when the blood level of nicotine falls, you usually develop withdrawal symptoms such as restlessness, increased appetite, inability to concentrate, irritability, dizziness, constipation, nicotine craving, or just feeling awful. These symptoms begin within a few hours after having the last cigarette. If they are not relieved by the next cigarette, withdrawal symptoms get worse. If you do not smoke any more cigarettes, the withdrawal symptoms peak after about 24 hours, and then gradually ease over about 2-4 weeks. So, most smokers smoke regularly to feel 'normal', and to prevent withdrawal symptoms.

About 2 in 3 smokers want to stop smoking but, without help, many fail to succeed. The main reason why so few smokers succeed, even though they want to stop smoking, is because nicotine addiction is strong and difficult to break. This is where varenicline can help.

What is varenicline and how does it work?

Varenicline (trade name 'Champix') is a medicine that was first licensed in the UK in December 2006. It was developed to help smokers to stop smoking. Varenicline mimics the effect of nicotine on the body. Therefore, it both reduces the urge to smoke and relieves withdrawal symptoms.

The precise action of varenicline is that it interferes with the receptors in the brain that nicotine stimulates. (The nicotine in cigarettes attaches to receptors in brain cells to stimulate part of the brain - this is how nicotine has it's effect.) What varenicline does is to partly stimulate the nicotine receptors. This mimics the effects of nicotine to reduce cravings and withdrawal effects when you stop smoking. However, at the same time, it partially blocks the receptors and prevents nicotine from attaching to the receptors. This blocks or blunts the effect of nicotine in people who give in to temptation and have a cigarette.

How effective is varenicline?

Varenicline does increase the chance of quitting smoking. Some studies have looked at this issue. The studies compared varenicline to a dummy (placebo) tablet in people who were keen to stop smoking. The results from the studies showed that, on average, about 21 in 100 people who took varenicline stopped smoking successfully. This compared to about 8 in 100 who took the dummy (placebo) tablets. In other words, taking varenicline more than doubled the rate of success.

Who should not take varenicline?

Varenicline is generally thought to be a safe medicine for most people. However, it is a new medicine and so caution is used in certain people. For example, it is not licensed to be used in people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those under the age of 18, and those with severe kidney failure. It may also be used with more caution in people who have certain conditions such as certain mental health disorders. Your doctor or practice nurse will advise if you are suitable for this medicine.

How do I take varenicline?


Varenicline does not 'make' you stop smoking. You still need determination to succeed, and to break the smoking habit. A combination of varenicline with counselling from a nurse, doctor, pharmacist, or other health professional is likely to increase your chance of successfully stopping smoking. Therefore, most doctors will only prescribe varenicline to people who really want to stop smoking as part of a 'stopping smoking' programme.

• You need a prescription to obtain varenicline - you cannot buy it at pharmacies.
• Decide on a 'quit date' - the date you intend to stop smoking.
• Start taking the tablets one week before the 'quit date'. The aim is to build up the dose so your body gets used to the medicine before the 'quit date'. The usual advice is to start with 0.5mg daily for the first three days. Then 0.5mg twice daily on days four to seven. Then, 1mg twice daily for 11 weeks.
• Take each dose with a full glass of water, preferably after eating. So, ideally, after breakfast, and after your evening meal.
• Tell your doctor if you develop any side-effects. A reduction in dose may be an option.

The usual course of treatment is for 12 weeks. If you have successfully stopped smoking by this time:

• In many cases, treatment is stopped and that is it. You are a non-smoker!
• In some cases, an additional 12 weeks of treatment may be advised. You can discuss this with your doctor. It may be useful for people who are not confident off the cigarettes.
• In some cases, a short 'tapering off' of the dose over a week or so may be helpful. This is because at the end of treatment, if the medicine is stopped abruptly, in about 3 in 100 people there is an increase in irritability, an urge to smoke, depression, and/or sleeping difficulty for a short time. These problems can be eased by a gradual reduction of dose.
• If you have not succeeded in quitting after 12 weeks there is no point in continuing with treatment at this time. Perhaps it is best to discuss things over with your doctor or practice nurse as to your future options.

Are there any side-effects?

Most people who take varenicline do not develop any side-effects, or they are only minor. The most commonly reported side-effect is nausea (feeling sick). This is often mild and tolerable. Nausea is thought to be less of a problem if you take the tablets just after a meal with a full glass of water.

Other reported side-effects that occur in some people include: insomnia (difficulty sleeping), abnormal dreams, headaches and flatulence (wind). Taking the evening dose after your evening meal, and not just before bedtime is thought to reduce any sleep related side-effects. See the leaflet that comes with the medicine for a full list of possible side-effects.

Note: varenicline is a new medicine. At the time of writing, no serious or permanent side-effects have been reported. It is still being monitored for possible side-effects as it becomes more widely used. Report any symptoms to your doctor that you feel may be caused by varenicline.

In particular, as a result of a few recent cases, health care professionals have been asked to monitor patients taking varenicline for behaviour and mood changes. If you take varenicline should get in touch with your doctor if you experience behaviour or mood changes,. Also, you should use caution when driving or operating machinery until you know that quitting smoking with the help of varenicline does not affect you in any way.

Nearly all of my smoker friends bought electronic ciggs back in December. Only one of them still uses it, the rest are back on the real thing.
