Soppong (Pangmapha), Mae Hong Son

My friend Burt owns a guest house, the Soppong River Inn which is located in Soppong (Pangmapha) Village, about half way between Mae Hong Son and Pai. I try and get up there about once a year or so. I've just posted some photos of a visit I made in 2003:

Isn't there another guesthouse at the east end of the village that has a swimming pool. I recall there was a large rock in the middle of the pool cunningly painted the same colour as the water.

I have had the EXTREME pleasure of staying at SRI, many times as a VIP guest of Burt & Joy. It is a GREAT place to relax and get away from the hectic, busy, city life. The food they serve is the very best, and the drinks are #1!!!! I have many, photos posted on there web site. The area is rich with local colour. The only internet connection in the area. It's a GREAT place!!!! There is no disco there.....lol....:) :)

That's the place, the rock was a bluish white colour completely invisible under the floodlights at night. It seems to have grown some fungus since I was last there.

I've been rereading a few of these threads as I try to decide where to go during new year holidays...

This pic surprised me as artie is a personal friend of mine whom I met through the original bangkok chat website...along with DD...

I'd like to do that trip...up to CM and back via MHS so would have to stay at this place seeing it comes so highly recommended...

what would it be like in january?...

I think Artie is over on the 9th of Jan for his holidays.

It's a nice trip, I've done the round trip through Mae Sariang five times.

Between CM and MHS there are 1000 hairpin bends.
Give yourself a few days to do the trip and you will enjoy it.

January is the coolest month of the year, so bring a sweater... real blokes wouldn't, but others might also bring a wool hat to wear at night.
