Quicktime movie to DVD?

Quicktime movie to DVD?

Last month I downloaded a great documentary called 'Religulous' which would make an ideal gift for my fathers birthday.

I have never tried creating a DVD from a movie downloaded from the net but the only way I could think of was to open a new i-movie project and drag it into that as a clip.

3GB disk space is not enough to do this and it would probably take hours and hours.

Is there a quick and easy way to burn this to DVD?

For those of you who don't know, I am an Apple user and have a 15" MacBook Pro what is three and a half years old.

Xilisoft is what I use simple and works great, you can find a download on most torrent sites.

I also tried using divx 6 and that took me ages...try Nero Vision as well i think that's quite good...again Torrent sites

I exclusively use Alloksoft products for all my media conversions,user friendly and reasonabley quick.

Can be purchased at you local online torrent shop.

It is an AVI movie downloaded from btjunkie.com via Transmission, size 699.6 MB.

It opens in high quality letterbox vision in Quicktime.

I have VLC, I have used it to open some files that Quicktime couldn't open with sound, but how would I use it to burn a Quicktime movie to DVD?

If it is just a .mov file he can put in a blank DVD, browse to it in Finder and drag the file to it and burn it.

It's just am avi file that opens in Quicktime - was never on dvd, but I want it on dvd.

So I just enter a blank and drag it onto the desktop disc icon?

I use Finder like I said, but I suppose your might work too. Try it.

Toast (current version, 10) will do it for you -- but you will still need enough space on your hard drive to accommodate the temporary file. Just drag into the Toast window, select DVD, and select burn. It will re-encode into the proper format and burn the DVD.

Of course, you could also just use iDVD, which should already be on your system - no idea why you were trying to use iMovie.

I have Toast V8, also have i-DVD but was unable to drag it in.

Opening a new i-DVD project? Well I don't need to be designing a fancy menu page or scene selections, I just want to burn a movie onto a dvd for somebody to watch.

Would I be better off doing it in Toast, or am I missing something.

If it is an .avi file then you just burn it to the DVD with whatever burning program you have.

hmm.. I've been told that Mac's are so easy to use that even an.. oh forget that, they are intuitive, one knows immediately how to do it. :)

The bar says 15% completed (encoding) - it has been on 15% for the past ten minutes and the green light on my external dvd burner isn't blinking. :(

No idea what youre doing with it but I used to burn a full dvd with movies etc in about 10 mins on my G4

I can't find the 'more' thingy, i'll just be patient... My Mac is old and has less than 9GB of space which may be the reason it is slow. Not a problem, I need to go to Carrefour and get some instant oatmeal and some crab sticks.

If you want to burn a DVD readable on a common home DVD reader without "fancy menu page or scene selections" just use iDVD this way.
