From the management. Perhaps it was just Lumpini's way of setting a higher protection tarriff for the new owners. I notice that none of their bands are all Thai (most are Filipino), so they must have worked something out with the Boys in Brown or they would have been shut down already. It's hard to get WPs for musicians, unless you just have one band, have lots of Thai employees and can pay sufficient monthly salaries like hotels do. Mojo's under its old ownership had a problem because they told a Thai band that asked for an audition they had no interest in hiring Thai musicians which resulted in a police raid and no more foreign musicians for several years. Last time I looked they were back again. The old Tokyo Joe's and O' Reilly's also had police raids in the past looking for foreign musicians. At O'Reilly's the foreigners were tipped off and managed to slip away in time. Disappointed, the police threatened to confiscate the gear from the stage, in order to secure some baksheesh for their trouble.
