My random photos of the UK

As it says random photos of stuff when I remember my camera.

Took a walk to the local park today where lots of fat people smoking cigarettes and eating junk food set a really bad example for their children by being fat and eating junk food then lighting up a cigarette. One of them asked me why my son wanted to drink water instead of fizzy drinks or "fruit juice", they thought it was really weird.

Anyway, no pics of the fat people just a couple of some stuff thats around where I am.

This is off the bridge round the corner from my parents house, a small brook that runs behind the houses.

I tried to get all technical and get depth of field shots of bees on flowers (on a point and shoot) there were loads of them. Sadly this is the best one I got.

This is going to be a slow burner of a thread so posts like "Is that it?" will me met with sarcastic replies and reds. :D

As an amateur photgrapher and a very impatient person I can say "I understand". Looking forward to more pics and these two are nice. :)

Well I hope you appreciate these pics of flowery things. Why? Im sneezing every goddam minute after getting a bit too close and hoovering up some pollen. :)

Look like Dahlias to me. Maybe you have given me inspiration for a thread, got tons of flower pics that I have taken in various gardens.

No idea Props. Im going to have to take photo's of rocks from now on, less chance of hayfever.

After lots of rain the sun came out today so we took a wander to the shop, nothing exciting but thats to be expected for where I live.

This is the same brook as pictured before just at a different point. At one point it goes underground and through the cellar of a pub, they do nice Guinness there. :)

If you turn right instead of at left the main road all the pubs are boarded up, I'll go right next time and get some black and whites of the closed pubs for doom and gloom effect.

It was a nice morning so 3 generations of my family went out for a bit, a bit of shopping at a local market. The market itself is pretty big and pretty tedious so I grabbed a few shots of this local landmark, the car was moving at the time so no complaints about quality please. :)

Well it seems like some pubs just wither and die, admittedly these werent the 2 most popular in the village but theyre within 20 metres of each other. I would have expected at least one to have had enough punters. Saying that an old bar I used to visit which was always busy in town has been closed down, young punters and packed over the weekend, no rhyme or reason.

Well with the economic situation and the smoking ban, I bet a lot of people are choosing to have their drinks at home now.

Smoking killed the pub game as did the lack of good landlords a good landlord will always pack a pub out.

^ so true. Had a little much round here a couple of weeks ago, half a dozen pubs closed in the last 6 months.

Well it was a nice day today so I took the son to the park, we walked to the first park which is about a mile away but left after 20 mins as we were the only ones there, a bit boring for the kid so we decided to walk to the next park about a mile away.

These are the snapshots I took on the way, first we had to wind down to a pathway through the church, the nipper was a bit wary of the "ghosts"

The path we were taking runs to the next park more directly than the road, its an old railway line (I think)

The local graffiti reflects the heritage of the place, quite fitting really.

What kind of dumb opening times are these?

Closed for dinner time (when they might have been servicing a crowd?), yet otherwise closed for one hour between 11pm and 12am? Is this normal?

^ Daffy, I believe that when the licencing laws were altered, (20 years ago) that publicans could chose their own hours, privided they were open a minimum number of hours per day.

Really, you're kidding? So the Brits have that reversed as well (i.e. 12:00am == midnight; 12:00pm == noon).

That's a new one, if it is so.

By logical thought at 11.59 am it is 1 minute before midday, therefore it seems logical that 12am should be midday.

^Its a big bone of contention that one, Ive just had a quick read of a few articles on it and its the same argument as milk in before tea or tea before milk.

^ Agreed I just done the same. In one it said that there should be no 12am or 12pm, as it should read 12 midday or 12 midnight.

Actually, neither - intelligent countries use a 24 hour system.

Thus, after 23:59, it becomes 0:00 (midnight, at which point, one second later it is the start of the new day), and after 11:59, it becomes 12:00 (noon, hence the middle of the day).

So far, it's been my experience that only retarded countries lacking common sense cling onto a system of arbitrary am/pm differentiations (and then can't even keep the meaning of those coordinated, it seems).

Then again, the rest of the world also uses the metric system -- and who's still stuck in the appropriately named 'imperial' system...?

Confusing lot - at least France and the remainder of civilization appears to get those things right ;-p

If youre referring to the UK we officially use the metric system, I dont think America does .

If anyones been following the saga of this brook you'll remember I said it runs through the cellar of a local pub, well this is one step closer upstream to the pub, its about 200 metres from here so I think I owe it to TD to go for a pint there next time. :)
