Royal Indian Hut /Pattaya /Jomtien

Not really sure if this place is in Jomtien or Pattaya, anyway it is down next to Cosy Beach Hotel so aging one should know, although once he finds out that the hotel now has it's name up in Chinese and it is full of Chinks he may not be so keen to go down there again.

This place when you go in does look really classy, got the old stand outside with the menu in for passerbys to have a look at, young lady standing by it to say hello to you, but when your actually sitting in there looking around you realise they have used the cheapest materials and cheapest labour, there were so many faults that I saw and looked at and thought to myself, "I wish we could get away with crap work like this", still I assume the builders werent expecting to get the last payment anyway so they didn't give a fok.

What did shock me the most was the prices, I mean this place was expensive, I did wonder what sort of customer base they were going for, in the 2 hours we were there there were 4 other diners, so they aint going for a large customer base.

Anyway we sat down and a young lady brought us the menu so we ordered drinks, she then rushed off to get our drinks, it was all quite a shock really, normally I have to say several times, "Get our drinks first bitch" but nope, not a classy establishment such as this, although she did bring ice in my glass for beer but then asked before pouring the beer whether I would like ice with it, now this is the service I expect for a person such as myself, well thats if they expect a tip anyway.

Back to the menus again and the waitress did upset me a bit when she asked if my galfriend and son would like the Thai food menu, I mean we don't goto a foking Indian restaurant to eat mediocore Thai food when there are so many good Thai restaurants about, hell even my son knows it aint worth ordering Tom Yum Krung in an Indian restaurant.

First up we ordered a dish of Popadoms and a dish of Masala Popadoms, the masala ones I have never heard of before, but I tell you what these were akin to Mexican food, damn these were good, but you got to eat them quick otherwise the vegetables make the popadoms soggy.

Came with the old green mint and spicey sauce and a red sweet and spicey one that I have never had before, you may notice the table cloths, the underneath one is a nice cotton one and the above one is a nice fake silk one.

It was at this time I saw this, what the hell is brown sauce doing in an Indian restaurant? I started to get worried about the main courses I had ordered.

The main courses soon arrived, Chicken Vindaloo and an Aloo Ghobi, the Ghobi was absolutely perfect, but then we come to the vindaloo, now the word "Vindaloo" translated into English means your bum will burn on the loo the next day, well after the first spoonfull of this I realised this was not going to happen, hell it wouldn't have burnt if I had stuck it up my bum, let alone digested it first, yep it was quite disappointing, not the bum burning bit but the lack of spiceyness, I mean nobody likes the morning after a proper vindaloo.

I take it you all notice the classy brass spoons, obviously a place of class waiting for customers of my caliber :)

The nan breads came a bit late, not too late but should really have been there with the main course, we ordered a plain and an onion one, we got a plain and a cheese one, if I wanted foking Pizza I would have gone to an Italian, I mean I don't mind the cheese nan breads, but I did want an onion one, still we ate them anyway and didn't bother complaining or getting the order changed, I think over here I have become to soft and let things slide by too easily.

The toilet is nice and clean, has a bog a urinal and no skat bucket, the sink is outside so you are shamed into washing your hands even if you haven't pissed on them, then again maybe the staff has to use that toilet so it maybe a good idea, all in all for 730baht it was ok, but there are better places in Pattaya.

Am literally shocked to see the above message posted by Mr Dirty Dog. More than a feeback it appeared to me a message by a jealous competitor running a restraunt next door. What surprised me on reading further his message was my question to myself that how can 2 people have just opposite kind of exp. in service. The quality is always a quality..!!! but then after reading few lines I could make out that its being written in anger and envy than a true feedback..but hats off to the amount nd effort put in by dirty dog in diminishing the goodwill of this place. But I'd like to say
"when elephants walk, dogs do bark" and so is dirtydog doing..and god has made him smart enough to choose his id as dirtydog. haha..

This place served me the best Indian taste I could've expected at a place so far from India. The cheap staff mentioned above is local thai recruit who actually were very friendly, humble and served me with a big smile on their face. They were gud in advising me to choose the best dish with right combi of spices to suit an indian family. The ambience was really good and they have big plasma TV on which they play all football leagues or other sports events.

The prices were fairly good considering the quality of food they served me.

I can write a long mail praising them, but then it wont make a big difference becoz that place is a already well run and need not prove anything. "QUALITY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF"

I just felt really funny on reading the above message which convinced me to write these few lines...

Enjoy your food..whereever you eat :) but give this place a chance..it was good..

You really wouldn't believe how wrong you are, if you read about some of my cooking experiences you would realise that I would never ever be allowed in a restaurants kitchen, in fact my girlfriend and my son both refuse to eat anything I cook, and, quite often I do as well, as for the review I thought it was quite a good one, I would go back to eat there again, maybe you should read some of my other reviews, I am a bit of a whinger :)

Don't be so sensitive Rohit, The Dog calls it as he sees it, and despite having the handicap of being British and therefore no knowing good food when he sees it.
He does do a good objective critical review, if it was my place i would be quite happy with it.
Based on this review I would give your place a try next time in Pattaya.

I see all so that you are catering for the Ruskie market which is an idea considering your location, but seeing they have a worse taste in food than the Brits I wouldn't hold you hopes up there, worth a shot tho'.
You could always put a fruit stand out front, that would bring those tight arse Ruskies in.

Hi Rohit, this is Neeraj here and living in england for last 20 years, I read all this and you are 100% right by saying that this restrurent is fantastic and service is very good and I was there in January 2009 Royal Indian Hut has opened their second Branch near walking street called Royal Indian Hut, so you are right this article is made by some body who is jealous from their progress and I wish all the best to Mangement of Royal Indian Hut and wish them good luck and keep it up with good work and dirty dog calling himself a dirty dog so dirty luck to dirty dog.

^ True. I'm actually impressed by the place, based on what DD wrote. Really, getting a star from the Dawg is like getting 3 stars from Michelin. :)

Seriously, based on DD's review (above) I'd try the place. Maybe you don't get his humour.
