immigration today

In and out in 45 minutes to extend visa with no problems other than being presented with three forms I have never seen before. Even though I had the bank letter and statement, had to sign another form swearing I had the cash in the bank. Two other forms were signed, god knows what for as could not really read what they said having forgot glasses. Anyway, immigration (BKK) did not seem very busy so asked the officer why and she said 'nobody wants to stay in Thailand any more' straight from the horses mouth as it were. Good thing too more room for the rest of us.

Not really good for us as the scams and rip-offs will increase and businesses frequented by foreign patrons such as expat bars and the like will suffer.

Things are dire in central Bangkok at the moment according to several foreign business owners I spoke to last week, the realists are preparing for the worst; closure and returning home.

^ several bar owners I know are in real trouble. There's simply not enough expat customers to go around any more and there's absolutely no tourists around to keep them afloat.

I wandered around my usual haunts on Sukhumvit and it was like a ghost town. Don't think I've ever seen it so quiet or people so depressed... :(

I am due there on thursday to extend a tourist visa - and turning up there to find out they want more docs is a headfcuk

I never knew the whores were out on Suk before nine A.M., bloody horrible sight and mosty katoey. One nice one outside the bank though, have they been up all night or just early starters, or plain desperate?

No Balders a non imm O multi entry. I think the extra paperrwork might have been due to my bank account which is one where you get interest and has to be in six months at a time. Could not actually update it so got a statement. One of the docs was about signing a promise (I think ) that you would not overstay, but I did not even have to fill all the parts in, just name, address and sign. They just all get stuffed in your file with hardly a look. What they are mainly interested in with my type is that the money has been in there for 90 days.

Why bother with them? Visa run every 90 days and renew every 15 months.

It can on grounds of marriage or retirement, my original non imm o is three years old, it does say extention on the form tm7 I think.
I just checked and it says 'reason (s) for extension' then you put in the number of days you want the extension for.

Pain in the arse, why leave every 90 days when you don't have to and fly home to get another visa every 15 month when you don't have to. I like to go home, but not when they say I have to just to pay another 100 quid for what I already have. You have to have a lot of cash in the bank at crappy interest rate, but about the same in the UK now thanks to golden Gordon.

I suggest you read the title of your TM7 application form.
You are not extending your visa, a visa cannot be extended.

You are not extending your visa, a visa cannot be extended.

Why is it called that then and why does it ask reason for extension, and why is the from entitled application for extension of temporary stay in kingdom? the original visa giving the temporary right, which is why it's called non immigrant. Seems pretty clear as it's in Thai and English. That's what they call it not me. maybe next time you go you could suggest they call it something else as you think it's confusing. Extending the right to stay based on the original visa not extending that visa? splitting hairs.

crazy dog, your visa is valid for 12 months from date of issue? You can't stay here for 12 months just on that visa, you either have to extend your permission to stay every 90 days, or leave Thailand and come back and be issued another permission to stay for 90 days on your 1 year valid visa.

well I have been here three years on it and extended the stay for 12 months at a time, thousands do the same with a non imm o you can do it on retirement or marriage grounds, marriage grounds is a pain as you have to go back in 90 days to get the visa. All I have to do in the next 12 months is report address every 90 days at immigration, last time took ten minutes.

Baldrick, I was there 30 days ago and extended my TR for 30 days, took about 20 mins, just needed usual photo and couple of copies of relevant Passport pages.

On a side note, if anyone is thinking of doing a border run to Poi Pet in the near future and has a high temperature, forget it. I was there today and you have to fill in medical forms and have your temperature taken entering Cambodia and entering Thailand, it is recorded and they will refuse you entry if you do not make the grade.:)
