Some reasons could be that in rural Thailand there is not much to steal and that is where the majority of the 65 million Thais live, another that the statistic material is very weak in this country with most things either not being reported and if reported not collected statisticly by the relevant authoritys where as other Country's is extremely efficient and if as much as a toothpick goes missing it will be in a central database within a few hours, but if you look at Pattaya we have on this estate still with all the security trappings had more than 10 break-ins that is between 40 houses so that would be 25% and most of them have not been reported to the Police, this goes on all over town, looking at some of the western Country's on top of the list there are rich pickings in every home all over the Country and the burglary's is being done to a great extend by other nationality's having seen a sharp rise with (gangs from Letland, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Russia and Romania) coming travelling to the Country just with that purpose, I would suggest that not many burglars travel to Thailand just for the purpose of making burglaries. Statistics is a tool that can be used in ways that do not reflect the situations correctly, the rate of burglary's here in LOS is extremely high in the places where there are something worth stealing and that would in general be where we expats are living so do not let this lot of worthless numbers on the burglary statistics put you to sleep you still need to protect your valuables. :)
