Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick.

Well after all these years of living here I have finally won something.

Not actually me, if the truth be known but I may be the beneficiary! :)

My wife won a new Yamaha Fino but the problem is she just purchased a new Honda Click about 100 Kms ago (mostly driven by me). :(

Now she tells me she is too scared to drive either of them because of the crime in Pattaya and I jumped at the chance to possibly buy myself a bike.

On the way home with the new Yamaha in the back of the pick up we stopped in the Honda dealer and I saw a new Black Honda Phantom.

I enquired about the price (85,000.00) and in principle they have agreed to trade in the 2 small bikes for the Phantom (and after they view the Click).

Does anyone know about this Honda Phantom (and at 200cc I feel it may be a bit of a toy) but I really want to start to ride again and maybe this one can be my refresher before I move to a monster.

Your advice would be appreciated. :)

Very good question as I was wondering the same.

The last time I had a good look at a Phantom the finish looked very average just like they had thrown it together, turned me off a tad.

Always wondered if they are mechanically sound and readily serviceable ?

Suppose some bugger will Know.

All I can add here is that a Phantom is too bulky to weave between cars in dense city traffic.

I just saw one that they just unwrapped and the finish looked superb! But then again I should ride it first Terry!

Fvck I'm all excited again about the prospect about getting back out on the highways! :)

Then again the bike experts here will have a bearing on what I eventually get onto!

Good point spiff but I will be mainly riding on the 36 and the 332 highways on the Eastern Seaboard.

A trip down to Trad for instance sake and I will handle the city driving in the safety of my car. :)

Just done a quick check on the Phantom, common problems are :

1 = Standard tires arn't so good, need to fit quality tires.

2 = Back brake is deadly need to be careful when braking.

3 = Uses a bit of oil, need to check weekly.

4 = Shite cam chain tensioner, needs to be checked regularly, if it's neglected one will fok the motor needing extensive repairs.

Besides that ain't to bad.

I had one for a little while when first arrived here, crap bike.

We gave it to the brother inlaw who then 2 weeks later wrapped it around a tree.

Not a nice bike to ride....I would not waste 85k on one. look for something better.

Get a trailbike, a real one.

Hopefully mate and I am waiting for the dealer to come around to look at the Honda.

Also thats why I couldn't come to Bangkok today (again) but I will definately be there for Mr. Pot's bar opening tomorrow night.

phantoms are not my cup of tea at all.

bit of a pretend bike for gay rockers.

with 85000 you could buy a really nice bike second hand rather than a crappy new one.

Shit, you're a skinny bloke......:)

I'd be going for a 400 at least. Power gets you out of more potential problems than brakes.

Nawties suggestion of a trail bike is, IMHO, very good.

Better I have a check around then but the guy who owns the Honda dealership is a friend of the family so I might get better support.

What else would you suggest then mate?

As a matter of fact I saw a mega trials bike on display but from experience they are not so good for comfortable touring.

That Phantom just looks bad value. Ive seen a few of then that are a year or so old, dont think they keep very well.
