Is LOS THE 'Fibbin' Capital of the World?

I've been told some Whoppers and not of the MacDonalds kind. That's for sure.

Perhaps my favourite one went like this......

My live-in lover was emptying her purse when a pack of Condoms fell out!

"What are you carrying those for?" I asked.

" Oh! I not Buttelfy" she insisted " I scare be layped ".

"Scared of being Raped are you?" I asked heatedly.

" Da. An If I get layped, I can get HIV" She replied.

Puzzled I asked "Yeh. So why are you carrying Condoms, Pooch ?"

"If he go to rayp me, I tell him wear one!" She yelled.....

Anyone beat that???

In the past three years, I've eaten BK exactly once. Haven't had McDs in at least two years.

I had an employee claiming to have to take afternoons off to go to Physiotherapy for a bad back. Which I gave him with docking any pay etc.

One particular Friday he took the whole day off as he was in a lot of pain. On the following Monday he put photos up on his social network website of him and his friends horse riding at a weekend adventure camp! A scan of his site should us that he was also moonlighting as a photographer for another company probably on the afternoons he was at 'Physio'

He never came back to the office after we confronted him with it.

Lying here is a symptom of the Truth Avoidance culture.

It's been bred into the national psyche to lie if it:

1. saves face
2. is convenient
3. gets you out of trouble
4. saves you time or money
5. makes you look better
6. feels like the right thing to do
7. sounds better than the truth
8. might be funny

The truth is immaterial in Thailand. The past 60 years have been spent brooding under a veil of not talking about certain subjects and denying well-known facts. The epidemic of truth avoidance and lying here is no surprise. Lies are common everywhere, and often made for the same reasons, but usually met with disdain.

When truthfulness isn't a noble or desirable characteristic, the distaste and disgust of lies and liars is marginalized.

Mate of mine after we had been working in S America got home to UK and when he emptied his pockets there was a circular ridge on the outside of his wallet ( condom size!) from something inside.
His hawkeyed wife spotted it and asked what it was - he had been enjoying himself out there and Sh*it a bloody brick !
After a stand off eventually she grabbed it and to his horror opened it up.

Inside was an "o" ring from a hydraulic pump he had been stripping down on site and had kept in his wallet to find a replacement next time he went to the stores - he had forgotten all about it !

It took months for the dust to settle after that - She accusing him for being unfaithful and that's why he wouldn't open his wallet - he telling her she was paranoid and he knew what it was all along but just wanted to wind her up !!!
