I am from 'here'. And yeah, I know what you mean when the lazy arsed service staff can be bothered dragging themselves away from the somtam to bring them all down again.
Still, I am sure TD owner isn't Thai, is he/she/they?
Christmas is the best time of year. It is such a shame that now it is a mere commerical enterprise focusing on the lord Euro.

Everyone, was let's say a little worse for wear. Most sensible people took the Hotel bed option as a suitable method of recovery. Not old FP.
FP decided a better recovery rememdy would be to take a stroll (at about 4am in the morning) in the unfamiliar territory that is Suphanburi. You know, like you do when you're bladdered, seems like a good idea at the time. Now, in FP's own words "something bumped into me as I was walking by the klong".
Now to give you an idea, this klong is about 15 meters wide, and FP was bumped so hard that he literally flew into the middle of this klong and had to swim back to the steep embankment through this aboslutely rat infested shit soiled klong (poor bastard). Now, not only was it bad enough that he didn't see or have any idea what hit him. He then assumed he was in Bangkok, obviously dazed by the incident and having consumed his own body weight in vodka.
Dripping away from the klong looking like a swamp monster, he hails the nearest (drunken) motorcycle taxi - at 4am! And yells at the poor bloke to take him home, his home address in BKK that is! So this poor chap takes one look at FP, has a think to himself, and agrees! Haha. It's only after he's been riding for about 20 minutes that he realises he's nowhere fucking near Bangkok and promptly reinstructs the motorcycle taxi to take him to the Hotel we were staying.
Upon arriving he had to face the walk of shame dripping in front of bemused and chuckling Thai Hotel Desk Staff. Farang Ting Tong, Ba ba bo bo could no doubt be heard and he slimed passed.
Needless to say, we didn't see him at the wedding the next day, although he did make an appearance at the reception in the evening and was back in fine form on the Karaoke again that night!

The Klong story reminded me of a mate of mine in the Netherlands maybe 25 years ago.
He was pissed out of his brains driving home at 3 in the morning, along the Amsterdam /Utrecht road that runs beside the ship canal with only a 6 ft gravel path separating road from water.
Decided to roll a cigarette while he was driving.
Lost control and drove straight into the canal - about 4 meters deep !.
Got out through the window swam ashore and got a taxi home.
Now this road is absolutely straight and featureless and he couldn't remember the next morning the place where he went off.
We spent the next day looking for marks in the gravel and oily patches in the water - zilch!!
As far as we know somewhere along that stretch is still a 30 year old Renault Dauphine waiting to be recovered !

The next day at the wedding when you stick the money in the envelope, my money was still wet and stinking of klong. :)
