I think we should have an advice thread for newbies to Thailand, maybe a new theme each week could be a good idea, so onto the first :)
Killing the local wildlife;

OK, so we have been bitten to death by the killer centerpede and haven't come up with a great way to kill them buggers, lets move onto snakes, not sure whose snake this is or whether it is a killer beasty, but if its in your house it needs to be deaded.

Now normally the best way to deaded a beasty snake is with something long and sharp, shovel, machette that sort of thing, but, if your as hard as fok then just chop its poxy head off with your pen knife, yep, thats what a mate of mine done, he is a crazy as fok German guy and has no fear of anything, we was at a fishing park when a load of Thais started screaming, turns out there was a 1 meter long poisonous snake wandering around, so he chopped its head off with his pocket knife, a braver man than me.
I also get a lot of these in the garden.

These are a problem because if one of the dogs tries to play with it then they can get poisoned from the toads back. One time I came home and the dogs head had swelled up to almost double its normal size from licking it. A few weeks later I came home and the dogs leg was swollen from stepping on it. Its quite funny.
My method for getting rid of them is to cut the bottom off a 1.5 litre water bottle, scooping the toad up inside and then launch over the wall onto DD's bit of wasteland next door.:) Its quite over groan so I reckon the get a soft landing.
^ 8 or 9 Iron if youve got a fence, 3 wood if you havent. :)

Centipedes -- the only thing I killed. Keep your eye on the racer while you grab for a broom, sweep it toward where you have a stick or something handy and mash it.
Never found the want or need to kill a snake. Dogs chased away vipers, pythons, cobras. Snakes are good for vermin. Trundled through the jungle in flip flops daily to take the dogs to the river. Never bothered by any slithery things. Just make lots of noise. If one gets in your bathroom, throw a towel over it, get a stick and push it in a bag. Release in the jungle or near a surly neighbour.:)Quote:

I don't kill snakes or toads (we've had a few doggy swollen faces too, FP!). We actually had a dog temporarily (about 1 week) blinded from either snake or millipede venom in her eyes. Never found the critter responsible, so don't know what it was.
Baygon works on the millipede things, doesn't it?
^ Baygon? Millipedes? They just coil up and you sweep em away, no? Centipedes -- just shoot 'em, NR.:)
In the Great Flood of Chiang Mai, 2005, as the waters were gathering around my house, a whole swarm of scorpions (well, about six) started advancing from their hideaways in the garden. They were heading for the living room. My sister-in-law dispatched them with a hoe.Quote:

Which reminds me, there are some critters in Thailand which are a lot more dangerous than scorpions, centipedes and snakes.
