We recently visited this floating market located in Samut Songkhram Province which is about 104km southwest of BKK. A lot of damn tourists mostly Japanese and Germans. Go in the morning as it gets damn hot on this crowded klong.

Our boat was powered by an old mouth lady using a paddle. However, there were some boats with big engines. Didn't make a damn bit of difference as we all went at the same speed. Slow!

This vendor is a classic. Since the traffic moved so slowly, I listened to the sales pitch. Originally, she wanted B600 for this piece of art. When the 'falang' said no, she came back with "For you special, only B350." The tourist still said no. Finally they agreed upon a price of B300.
The same thing can be bought at JJ Market for about B120-150. Oh well, I suppose it is the experience.

Overall, the floating market is worth at least a visit.:) BTW, the plates with your photo in the middle costs about B150...
Must say that I enjoyed this. The market I thought was one big tourist trap. We were in a group that had one of the big boats and had about 3 quarters of an hour hurtling round the klongs before we got to the market. Very exhillerating.
Good post Hillbilly, but it looks terrible. I'll give it a miss. There a floating market around Auttaya as well, anyone been ?
I've never been to a floating market in Ayuttaya but me, Marmite, a lad from Ajarn (I forgot his name), Ken May and his lovely friend, we had a picnic around the river, it was quite nice.

First time I ever seen such a nice machinery on a longtail
I went to the floating market also, but as well the bridge over the River Kwai overall neither was impressive but seeing both in the one day make it better getting to see all the tourists sites in one day...As well as the graveyard for the dead solders on the road to the bridge on your left hand side.

I thought the floating market was ok. Yeah its a tourist trap but with bartering in thai i got all my gifts in one place and it was alot cheaper than Bangkok.
