Places you'd recommend

OK, let's be positive for a chance:

I've lots of eateries and noodlestalls to recommend up my sleeve, but let's start with these two:
Chiang Rai, Yetrod Rd., opposite the Chinese temple:
there is a tidy looking place with comfy wooden benches which does an assortment of Thai-style dishes in the 50-60 bt range. Enormous portions (by Thai standards), good for 2 backpackers at least, and very tasty.

Further to the right, an eatery which looks more like what you're used to from travelling, corrugated iron and plastic sheet roof, with matching facilities. Premises rented from the wat. But, a neat Rice-soup for breakfst (20bt) and a choice of vegetarian and 'normal' dishes. The Cordon Blue with French Fries was good and filling (120bt), though the fries were a bit soggy, i.e. undercooked Brit style.

Tak Fa just off highway 11 on the way to all the "P" places. One of the best Noddle shops I've eaten in here, great moo yang, moo deng, moo mak. Chicken, the wife reconed the chicken feet are great. Good portion's about 20 bhat a bowl.

Turn right about 40 km along highway 11 for Tak Fa at the traffic lights wiht the tractor sales, its about half a km on your right hand side, next to a petrol pump and in front of the post office, ample parking.

I would'nt bother to drive up especialy for it but if you passing and pekish :)

Ham & Cheese omelette with baked beans is yummy. Their chips are fine, too.

Thats because thats the corner of your street!! You can find it even when your hangover is so strong you are still hammered!! Plus they know to leave you alone.:) Other than ordering and delivering.

Ok, This is my attempt to tell you a very good night of food some decent entertainment and very excellent service the best I have had in Thailand.
The name is Thai and I have been told my Phonetics are shit.
The translation is:
Redwood house
The name is:
Baan Mai Dang.
It is mostly for Thai they have country music. The singer did not speak a lick of English But he sang every American song he knew! And shit they were good! I mean they damn near sounded like the original bands.
I was told they usually just sing Thai songs but since I was there sang the american ones. It was great I recomend it highly!

I just had a fantastic double cheeseburger At the "Fine Thanks" reataurant (goofy name). 5 minutes out of Patong toward the merlin. Right on the beach quiet lovely shade trees nice breeze. Perfect!

On the Korat bypass heading towards BKK there is a big openair type restaurant that has a large green sign featuring a very big prawn. It has excellent food. We nearly always plan a halfway stop between Udon and BKK to enable us to have lunch there. Highly recommended and excellent value for money.

If you live in Ratchada, there is a good pub in the basement of the Robinsons building.

The Thai food is good and cheap, the beer is also and they do some very good western food.

Filet mignon is quite good and they also serve a big T bone steak which they will cook exactly as you ask.

They have a singer most nights and all the waiters are dressed as cowboys, but I like it best when the sheriff is my waiter.

Yok Yor Marina is one of my favs.

On the bank of the Chao Praya opposite Rivercity, a wide choice of classy Thai dishes, speciality seafood.
In the open air eating area entertainment is provided by dancers and singers (slightly amusing to irritating), indoors small platforms with dancers (all white-skinned), who are willing to join you at the table for a drink, some sing on stage with the live-music.

On my last couple of trips have used two seafood restaurants on 3rd road. Just opposite Blue Chile. Mamaroi and Hartien, both were probably at the better end of the Thai scale. Excellent for a nice meal. followed by the obligatory Karaoke lounges next door. There was a nightclub on the same road, Route 99, were I played a lonely game of "spot the farang". Both the Karaoke and nightclub are the type of place where you buy a bottle and .....finish it. You know you have no chance of returning as in the morning you will have forgotten where you will have been.

Chanthorn Pochana in Chanthaburi near the Kasemsarn 1 hotel!

'Rahn Ahaan Larp Pet Meuang Yot' (No English Sign) also in Chanthaburi on the left hand side of Thanon Rak Sak Cha Moon out near Rajabhat Rambhaibarni has excellent Isaan food at rock bottom prices.

Out of Nan on highway 101, on the right just before Wiang Sah, a cosy open-air resturant called Huen Muang nestles along the banks of the river Sah.
The 2 friendly guys in their 20s specialise in Northern Thai beef dishes - in fact it's all you can order foodwise.
We feasted on different varieties of Laab Dip (raw mince) and Nam Tok (sliced roast with spices and herbs).
The Laab was served on a bed of hand-picked local herbs and legumes. The dented Aluminium ice bucket with chopped ice to keep the drinks cold will set you back an extra 10 bt.
Minus: they ran out of sticky rice, didn't expect so many customers - there were 8 of us, and 2 other tables were occupied.
Total cost: 500bt including soft drinks and tip.

On my way to/from work, I pass over the Rama V bridge, which has kilometers of restaurants along the road on both sides of the river. More opening up every month.

To get there from Bangkok, take Ratchadapisek rd all the way to Krungthep-Nontaburi road, and follow the signs to Rama V bridge. Lots of good outdoor restaurants there!

Went to the new Woodstock last Night, Thonglor Soi 13, The place is nicley decorated, 3 floors with the middle one having pool tables and an unique electronic Juke box. Its a place for meeting friends rather than meeting a partner for horizonal dancing. The atmosphere is quiet so ideal for conversation, not over powered by back ground music. The menu is reasonable and quality of food seemed quite good. I had Tachos which were excellent, my friends had Burgers, unexceptional but OK. Has good parking in the rear of the building. Staff were attentive, pleasant and very easy on the eye.

Nick's Bar in Soi 7 Pattaya is very good. I have been there a number of times recently, he seems to organize daytime activities like Golf and Fishing trips. He has mede me feel welcome in the community.
I don't think my wife likes me snoring-off in the car on the way home though.

And yes, beer with ice (don't tell my German friends I've done this).
Not bad at all for 200bt including the beer and a tip.

The sportsmans Bar restaurant in Soi 13 ( I think) Pattaya does bloody a good roast, either Beef, Pork and Lamb, or all three if you can manage it. Freshly sliced while you hold your plate out. All for 375 Baht incl a soup. Not bad at all, only problem is that you have to share the bar with lots of Fat English people all having the Skin head look with lots of the obligatory Tats, wonder if they all come from the same Mum.

I wondered what happened to the place. It was fairly convenient in nana plaza and food was good
