Job Wanted?

I am looking for a job that can help me to relocate to Thailand for at least half of the year. I am almost 40 and I am a Electrician. I currently working for the State Goverment. The job pays decent but with the rising cost of everything in America and me missing my Family that lives in Thailand. I am looking for another job. I am hoping to get some maybe inside info. I know it is hard to find such a job but it never hurts to look right. And maybe if one of you have some type of tip for me it could really help. Right. So Please Please!

You wouldn't know if laugh or cry when you see the level of electric standard over here. Guess that means that there is a good opportunity for you to come here and do it right.

Yes in the country it is a joke but in Bangkok it is quite with it. Sure there is some crap hodgepoged but for the most part they are ok. But When you can hire someone for 8,000 a month not to much market for someone who wants 200,000.:D Of course I would settle for 100,000 you know cost of living.

Thanks I just looked at the site though it seems they are looking for electrical engineers there is a differnce. I am a electrician. A engineer plans it I build it.
But if you have some inside info and maybe can help me get a job that would be great thanks

How about this, People who are living in Thailand right now what do you do for a living?:p

I do construction :) and I employ electricians from 250 baht perday to 400baht perday, not much good for you though :(

I'm retired. But Ms. B just got a job working at the front desk at a hotel here in Korat. She works six days a week and gets paid 5000 baht a month. That's about US$125.00. And, she's a college graduate with nearly a decade of experience working overseas.

Wages are low here, even for professional and skilled workers.

Sure, some foreigners have done well and found good paying jobs or have put together profitable businesses, but there is no easy answer to problem of finding a job that will enable you to live a lifestyle that would be acceptable to you.

I graduated Electrical Engineering. Yes, I am Electrical engineer but never ever work about what I exactly studied.

My next job is the closest what I studied but not exactly yet but it's a good sign.

Low paid but happy. ;)

But a hell of alot more than 5,000 I would hope 5-7 times that amount.

Are you just an electrician or do you do much more than that (manage big projects etc). If you are only an electrician then forget it - why pay someone 100k a month when they can pay a thai 8k a month (and who will understand the language better). Unless you have some sort of skill which a local does not have then you should think about something else.

Like teaching.........

Yes I have run projects but just from the electrical standpoint not a general stand point. I am not going to go with the teaching thing because there is not enough money in it and I do not have the credintials for it.

I am sure you do!! Way more, but you arent going to work as an electrician in Bangkok. Even in the 5 and 6 star hotels the head electrician makes about 30,000 baht a month plus service. These are guys with 10 years in the same joint or equivalent pay.

Sorry man. Alot of us moved down in pay, for a better lifestyle and peace of mind.
You have to consider all your options. You must have some real money saved or invested that you can get to.

Well when you talk about moved down in pay. How much are you talking about?

As an electrician 30,000 baht a month maybe but I dont think you can have the job due to Thai labor laws. I could be wrong but dont think so.

The wife is getting itchy so we might be in Thailand sooner than I thought!

Do you have any industrial electrician experience? If so why not look into some of the oil companies. They likely hire many ex-pat tradespeople, this would only apply if you have documented credentials though. Also some form of supervisory experience would be a big asset as they often expect ex-pat employees to lead and do QA on work largely performed by locals.

I don't really know how you would go about finding contacts in this but it might be an option. I can't imagine you would be able to make enough money in the residential game, maybe if you set your self up as an electrical contractor with a number of employees.

If it was easy more folks would be doing it :)

I know several people who work in their home countries for approx. 6 months a year, then come to Thailand and have fun, no need to work.

As an electrician, you could easily do that. You can just work hard and make a lot in quite a short time in the US self-employed.

but seriously , all roads in Thailand lead to Tefl (ie:teaching) and what a jolly old lifestyle that is!

credentials - you only need to be white and just about be able to string a sentence of Angrit together.

It's a great joy and if you're lucky you might be able to move into the circles of Thai hi-society (provided you like being buggered).

i disagree, sure many ppl go down this road but there is plenty of other options, but yes not always easy to find.

you'll never work as an electrician as outlined above, however, many expat companies, construction and otherwise hire expats in a supervisory and managerial role - also because expat clients like to be able to talk to/see an expat in charge invovled in the company.

try by checking (bangkok post, nation) newspapers for advertisments, contact your chamber of commerce for a start.

Sanuk and Andy hit the nail on the head. Either way great advice. The best of both worlds.

try this company they have lots of work as Electrical but you will have to be in charge of Electircian or call yourself and Engineer

I am very qualified electrician with managment experience. For five years I worked for a managment company who built office suite to suit. I also was a soldier for three years. I am 39 years and I am looking for a job to relocate to Thailand. This job does not need to be in Thailand but possibly I could base myself there. I feel poverty is creeping up on me in the states. In the past it was easy to save money now it just seems like I have enought to pay the bills. At this rate I feel there is not going to be any retirement here. I know I am looking for a small miracle, but one can wish eh! While I am at it why not the lottery huh!:stups: oh come on the goodnes of your heart help me:blackeye:
