Road Trip pics... Kanchanaburi, Ayuttuya, Paak Chong, Moo Baan

Decided to hit the road and get away from Pattaya for a while... Took SBF for company and entertainment.

I hired this car from a big boobed friend and took off in the direction of Kanchanaburi, getting lost in Bangkok on the way...

We looked at a room on one of the floating house boats on the river but it was a bit grotty and SBF was scared that we might drown if it rained heavy... Drove around a bit and found Ploy Guesthouse which I remembered had some good reviews... The room was spot on - nice big bed, good furnishings and a good outside shower... And only 800 baht per night...

After 2 nights in Kanchanaburi we headed to Ayuttuya. Found a decent room in a backpacker type place called Tonys Guesthouse for 1000 baht..

Took a horse and carriage ride around the old temples...

Next day we drove to Paak Chong where we settled down in a log cabin in the vinyard area for a couple of nights... This hut was only 800 baht per night..

Then it was time to head to SBF's village to stay with the in-laws... Stocked the car up with Leo and Lao Kao first so that I could impress the family with gifts of booze...

I enjoyed the couple of nights in the village where I got lessons in gathering up food for the evenings menu, herding cows and weaving silk...

Yep we stayed there last year, would recommend it for sure - clean, cheap and close to lots of food, grog and the bridge.

That is the loving name we give his girlfriend, stands for 'speccy brace face', she even answers to 'SBF' now. Not sure if she's really happy about it though.:p

we stayed at the 'ploy' also how nice is it upstairs at sundown, truelly peaceful, there,s a little bar down the road, i think it was called the no name bar, cheap piss and the pad thai was the best i have tried anywhere, great beer chips too!

Yes, I stayed at the Ploy Guest House at Christmas with the girlfriend. Very nie too, but they must have put the prices up - I paid 700 baht.

The guesthouse up the road, the Blue Star, is a bit skanky. About the same cost, but the rooms in the little huts were scruffy. However, it was right opposite the Indian restaurant, Ali Bongo's, which was excellent, and even the girlfriend enjoyed the food, unusual for a Thai. In fact, she asked to go back the next night as well.

Kanchanaburi's a nice little spot, despite its dreadful past, which makes me realise just how grasping, duplicitous and opportunistic Thais really are.

Good pics Rawlins, the shower doesn't look that bad. Try visiting in January, the water will be freezing!

^ I only lasted a couple of nights crashing down with the in-laws.... same room as her Mum n' Dad... The Mum n' Dad insisted that we had the matress with mozzie net and they crashed on the hard floor...

I tried to avoid getting a shower, telling them that farangs only showered once a week...

my Thai GF had a defunct Hot Water Heater & a western toilet in her house in Issan. Very progressive. I replaced the HW Heater with a new one for 3000 ThB. Amazing hot much hot water that little unit used. GF allowed the extended family to use the HW Shower in cold weather; but she always asked if that was OK with me. The very young children also used our HW Shower. The MIL Toilet was dismal. Most 3rd class Thai Hotels had slosh showers in the 1970's, when I first toured LOS.
