I've been trying to get worms to breed in my compost, with little success. Worm farms that I've attempted have also failed. Friends in Australia get them without even trying, but I can't seem to get the little buggers established.
I've been told some of the varieties over here are suitable, I've scratched around in the dirt and collected heaps, but they all seem to disappear.
Anyone had any luck with worms?
Hope this thread expands because I would like to learn from it..come TDrs help out
I was looking at my lawn today, no worm casts at all. in NZ they were so plentiful we would eat them when I was a kid :)
Tried the same to have a supply of worms for fishing!
No luck at all!
I think maybe the temperature is too high for the little buggers to live near the surface.
When I want worms for bait the local Burmese seem to be able to provide them in a day . 1 baht for 3 !!!
Wont tell me where they dig them though!- Bastards ! :)

You should check out the publications of the insanely obsessive Dr Gordon Enoch Gates, if it's South-East asian and worm-related he's the man. Sadly he died 20 years ago, you probably remember that many countries held national days of mourning.

edit: Sorry, I've only just read the OP. I know nothing about earthworms.
I find heaps of worms under the buffalo dung, these are the ones I was putting in my worm farm, but no luck so far, maybe I need to be a bit more pateint.
I'm told Thailand has a couple of varities suitable for composting, apparently the correct ones are called 'wrigglers', but this name is neither helpful or imaginative, I've never seen a worm that didn't fit the description.
My family in Aust just had them appear in the compost and they've gone crazy.
Try bamboo leaves. I have bamboo along the entire side of my house. The fallen leaves I rake into a compost heap where they break down. There are thousands of garden worms thriving there. Where fallen leaves get trapped along the bottom of the fence are worms which seem to appear overnight. Just a thought.
