Chae sawn National Park and Hot springs.






Chae sawn National Park is situated in the mountainous area northeast of Lampang province.
The area covers some 768sq meters, and has 6 levels including many caves and 3 waterfalls. The biggest waterfall Mae Beig has a fall of 100m over the 3 levels.
Nine boreholes make up the vast area of hot springs where the temperature reaches a massive 70c.
A nights stop over is recommended as travelling from Chiangmai to the park can take 4/5 hours.

The park has a vistor center,12 bungalows 2 dormitories and a camp site where equipment can rented.

when did you go there?

Must have been a few months ago given the greenery - nice pics too. I like the place, stayed overnight in one of the bungalows 7-8 years ago. Back then they had huts with indoor tubs for soaking at a modest rate (well, modest for back then, don't know what it is now?).

Couple of months ago...first trip was suspended when are Lazy mates over slept:)

Directions..
The train from chiang mai to lampang leaves about 9.45 am.
This is a great way to travel as the train winds through the mountains,and the scenery is really pretty.
On arrival at lampang the park is still another 75km.
As usual at any station the touts are there in earnest trying to charge 1800 bht
for the round trip.
This will not include the 200bht per person entrance fee.
We decided to go by normal song tow. I think it was 140bht each and for us well worth the ride, as we stopped of at many little villages we other wise would not have.
If you are doing the trip your self from lampang.

Take the 1035 ( Lampang-chae hom) 58km
Turn left at Barn Pongkob 1287 (Muang-chae Hom) 6km
Then left on to the 1252 11km to the parks headquaters.

Bewdy. :) Thailand has so many nice places, that I fear I will not live long enough to see them all.

This is also the place where I first made the acquaintance with these fascinating little furry caterpillars... apparently they are poisonous so one should not try to handle them. They shimmer after the rains as raindrops are pierces on their many sharp hairs:

Lacking any red or bright orange coloring I would doubt that this critter is poisonous. This butterfly (leg configuration suggests its a butterfly) would have some stripes at least along the body that were very red. The pigmentation of the main body generally is a precursor of the adult coloration.

NOT all red or partially red are poisonous but, almost all poisonous varieties have some red... Confusing... ? yep

ohhh I love this place. I first went there about 10 years ago. It was sooo nice, especially in Dec-Jan. The smell of sulpher was pretty strong though.
Worth visiting!!

So, a poisonous creature may or may not show some sort of color pigmentation, of a color that may or may not be bright?
