Recently we heard that the US authorities had stopped Edhi at JFK airport. He was questioned and the question was "why do you look the way you look?" (for those who don't know how he looks: he has long beard and always wears traditional Pakistani dress along with traditional cap).
Now for those of you who don't know Edhi, he is the receipent of Lenin Peace Prize. He and his wife received Ramon Magsaysay Award for public services. He is the head of "Edhi Foundation, Pakistan" which has the largest private ambulance service network in the world.
Now my question is ....
Is having a beard in America considered illegal or do Americans think that a person with long beard always represents (or is attached to) Al Qaeda? What we know is that Americans are all educated, well informed people with living standards above the rest and they also claim that America is the land of free, multi-cultural society where freedom of right is of utmost importance and anyone can practice that right. Now Edhi being a green card holder and having volunteer ambulance service in America is stopped by same Americans and asked why do you look the way you look.
Keeping this in mind can America promote (as they claim) peace and harmony, freedom and democracy?
