Homeless Woman Caught Openly Using Illegal Drugs at Pattaya Market
A homeless woman was caught openly using methamphetamine at a popular Pattaya market, sparking online concerns over the city’s world-class family friendly image.
On February 21st, vendors at Grand Hall Market, located at the entrance of Soi Buakhao on South Pattaya Road, raised concerns over a homeless woman openly using illegal drug at the market.
The market, which is a popular destination for second-hand clothing and accessories, attracts a large number of visitors daily. However, vendors were alarmed when a bystander filmed the woman, described as overweight, approximately 160 cm tall, and disheveled, openly using meth at the back of the market. The footage shows her holding drug paraphernalia in her right hand while lighting it with her left, completely indifferent to those around her.
Mr. Satianpong, a 47-year-old vendor, stated that the woman had been in the area for years. Authorities have repeatedly removed her, only for her to return within two days. He expressed frustration over her erratic behavior, noting that she often shouts at vendors and tourists. He feared that if foreign visitors capture and share such incidents online, it could severely impact Pattaya’s reputation.
When approached by reporters, the woman, identified only as “Porn,” admitted to occasionally using drugs. She claimed that other homeless individuals in the area sometimes provided her with drugs. She also mentioned that she earns money by helping vendors carry goods.
Despite ongoing efforts by Pattaya authorities to combat drug-related issues—most recently through the “Pattaya No Parasite” campaign led by Provincial Police Region 2—problems like this continue to surface. Residents said this raises concerns about the city’s positive image for tourists.
