Taxi Motorbike Rider Forces Foreign Passengers Out of Application Taxi in Patong
A video clip showing a taxi motorbike rider forcing foreign passengers out of an application taxi car in Patong has gone viral on social media this week.
According to an unidentified female taxi driver who spoke with the Phuket Express, the incident occurred on Taweewong Road. Two tourists had boarded her EV taxi car intending to travel to Phuket International Airport.
During the ride, a taxi motorbike rider approached the vehicle and pulled the car’s door open when the passengers tried to close it. He then forced the tourists to get out of the car. The female taxi driver showed the rider her mobile phone to prove that she is a legal taxi driver. However, the rider claimed that she had stolen his passengers. It remains unclear what happened to the passengers afterward.
The incident has sparked discussions on social media about the tensions between traditional taxi services and app-based ride-sharing services in the area.
Police are evidently aware of the video but it is unclear what action, if any, will be taken.
