Maya Bay to Reopen on October 1st After Two-Month Restoration

Maya Bay in Thailand’s southern province of Krabi is set to reopen on October 1st 2024 after a two-month closure, with national park officers racing to install buoys and prepare for an expected influx of tourists.


On September 30th, officers from the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park worked to install buoys for mooring boats, as well as demarcation buoys to prevent vessels from entering the conservation area. This is part of the preparations for the upcoming tourist season in Thailand, which is set to begin on October 1st.


Previously, the national park had closed Maya Bay for nearly two months to allow the natural environment to recover. The bay is scheduled to reopen to tourists on October 1st.

Mr. Yutthapong Damsrisuk, the head of the national park, stated that the academic and planning team, along with the underwater operations unit, are currently repairing and maintaining the demarcation buoys to make sure they are in good condition. These preparations are aimed at protecting the coral reef and ensuring the safety of visitors.


With the reopening of Maya Bay and surrounding areas on October 1st, Mr. Yutthapong expected that a large number of tourists will flock to the area. The park authorities are making all necessary preparations to handle the influx.
