Eight rangers wounded by roadside IED in Narathiwat
Eight para-military rangers were injured by an improvised explosive device (IED), planted at the roadside in Ra-ngae district of Thailand’s southernmost province of Narathiwat, just before noon today.
The rangers, including the driver, were in a pick-up truck on their way back to their camp, carrying several tree trunks they had just felled to build a makeshift shelter.
As the truck was approaching a utility pole in Village 1, Tanyongmas sub-district, insurgents, hiding in nearby bushes, detonated the device.
The force of the blast and shrapnel damaged the truck and injured all eight men, who were rushed to the district hospital.
The scene of the explosion was immediately sealed off as an explosive ordnance disposal team searched the area for more IEDs.
