Police Arrest Former Dutch Soldier for Drug Possession, Find Rape Drug Production Equ
Pattaya Police raided the condominium room of a former Dutch soldier on the evening of August 4th and arrested the man for illegal drug possession. Police also discovered what they said was date-rape drug production equipment in the man’s room.
The raid was carried out at 5:36 PM on August 4th, 2024 and spearheaded by Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit, the Superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station. Officers searched the suspect’s room on the 8th floor of a condominium in Central Pattaya and seized a variety of items including crystal methamphetamine, drug production equipment, unknown precursor chemicals, plastic zip bags, 120 euros in foreign currency, and 56,500 baht in Thai currency.
The raid followed a prior investigation where Pattaya police patrol officers noticed a suspicious foreigner later identified as Mr. Simon Leonardus Petrus Sjerps, a 63-year-old Dutch national. He was found with crystal methamphetamine hidden on his body in clear plastic zip bags. This led to the consequent search of his condominium. The officers were shocked to discover a small-scale drug production setup in his room and also what they said were date-rape drug production tools.
According to Pattaya Police, the total amount of confiscated items included a 5-kilogram camping gas stove, stainless steel bowls, glass stirring rods, four plastic gallons (presumed to contain precursor chemicals), sodium hydroxide, clear plastic zip bags, drug paraphernalia, a plastic sealing machine, Viagra, a digital scale, and open jelly candy wrappers, which appeared to be used for concealing drugs or as an ingredient in drug production.
Mr. Sjerps, whom Pattaya Police said was a former soldier, reportedly admitted to using crystal meth. He also reportedly confessed that he used the equipment and chemicals to produce a rape drug. He stated that he had mixed all the chemicals and had planned to heat them, but had not yet dared to try them.
Mr. Sjerps has been detained for further investigation. He initially faces charges of possessing and using crystal methamphetamine. Pol. Col. Nawin said the suspect may face additional charges based on further investigation into the production of rape drugs or other illegal activities.
