NACC to Probe Deputy Police Chief Over Bribery Claims
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has initiated an investigation into allegations against Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, also known as Big Joke, and four other police officers. The probe focuses on claims that they accepted bribes from a gambling website, leading to potential dereliction of duty.
The decision follows a call for the NACC to examine the involvement of Pol Gen Surachate and his aides in allegedly ignoring illegal activities conducted by a gambling site operated by Thanyanan Sucharitchinsri, alias Minnie.
The case has garnered attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the serious accusations of misconduct. The NACC, with its current roster of five commissioners, agreed to proceed with the investigation following the submission of the complaint.
This inquiry is part of a broader examination into illicit online gambling operations, which have reportedly caused significant financial damage, estimated at around 300 million baht.

Indian Tourist Found Dead in Koh Larn Forest, Suicide Suspected
A somber discovery was made atop Koh Larn’s highest peak, behind the revered Buddha footprint at Khao Phra Yai Temple, where the body of an Indian man was found in an apparent suicide.
At approximately 11:00 a.m. on April 14, Deputy Inspector Police Lieutenant Anirut Jehero of the Pattaya City Police Station received a distressing report. Accompanied by the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Squad, authorities embarked on a challenging ascent, trekking over 1.2 kilometers to the summit which stands 230 meters above sea level.
The deceased, later identified as a 31-year-old Indian man, Mr. G, whose full name was withheld per The Pattaya News editorial policy for suicides, was discovered suspended and hanging beneath a tree, dressed in a white shirt and white-black elephant pants. A white and blue scarf was also found at the scene. Officials noted no signs of struggle or injury on Mr. G, who is believed to have passed away at least 10 hours prior to the discovery. Among his possessions were two mobile phones and a sum of Indian currency, which have been secured by police as evidence.
Dew, a local monk, recounted the moment a group of tourists alerted him to the grim find, prompting immediate notification of the authorities. The previous evening, Mr. G was observed by monks entering the mountain area but did not return by nightfall, leading to a search that ended tragically the following day.
Miss Koi Namsuam, a 36-year-old car rental business owner who knew the victim, described Mr. G to the Pattaya News as a long-term tourist who had been residing on Koh Larn for approximately two months. She recalled conversations where he expressed distress over familial discord, particularly involving his father, a police officer in India. Mr. G had reportedly threatened to take his own life in Thailand if financial support from his father was not forthcoming.
The body of Mr. G has since been transported to the Forensic Institute at the police hospital for a comprehensive autopsy. While initial assessments suggest suicide driven by family issues, further investigations are underway. Authorities are in the process of notifying the Indian Embassy to facilitate communication with Mr. G’s relatives and to ascertain the definitive cause of his demise.
