Burger Bros, Phram 9, Soi 49 - Again

Several of the erstwhile posters here has mentioned the my dear Burger Bros had sharply declined. I was deeply saddened to hear this and after getting the sobbing out of my system, I resolved to visit and find out for myself.

So off we went on the NineBot!

After a few sphincter gripping encounters on the road, we finally arrived. We knew we were at a real, American style burger place, just look at the pickups.

We settled in to make our order. The first thing we noticed is that they got rid of the little box on the table that let you place your own order.

I got a Smokey Bro (originally 130B I believe, now 160B) and some curly fries. The wife got the Burger Bro, onion wings and potato wedges. In a flash, they had the sides out. We reckoned that was enough for 4 people.

Then it was a look at the condiment selections.....a very nice selection of 'ments, as we say in the burger review trade.

Then, the stars of the show, the burgers (or at least my burger as the wife was too hungry to stop to take pictures). A nice cold one always is the perfect complement to a burger.

One of the gripes I've always had with bacon infused burgers is that the bacon is usually a bit undercooked for me....this was perfect. A seriously nice burger, especially for the price point.

The owner was there, we exchanged pleasantries and I was going to try to interview him to see how things were going, but he couldn't take his eyes off the phone. I did mention the taste of rosemary the was at times a bit much in the past was no longer there and he admitted to reducing it due to customer feedback.

Their menu has expanded to pasta and such, perhaps they're trying to become more of a diner sort of place rather than just a burger joint.

On a final note, we got our bill (830B) and I waved a 1000B note. Guess what happened next?

Well, you're right. None of the restos down Soi 49 take cash anyone. Luckily our credit card worked with no problems.

Oh, how I had a chuckle.......

That burger does look good. Nice and simple.

Not accepting cash is a joke though.

Why do they not accept cash anymore? Are they encouraging the use of apps (similar to WePay/ Alipay, Paymaya, etc)? The QR code thingys? Or just generally cashless transactions? (anyone can answer, TIA)

They encourage the use of payment apps. We paid by credit card. When I say "they", soi 49 has a whole constellation of restaurants who do not take cash.

Ironic with Thai food taking the top spots all over teh world Msssaman Kaprow, Tom Yam, Tom kha, somtam,green curry a visitor would wastse time and money on pre chewed fasst food.

I never ate ssuch peasant tucker when in the west but undersstand why Accdental Ajarnss who taech invMaccas long for KFC bucket of shite if their thai nong away, but to have but abvrief break in one of the culinary capitals of the word where michelin starred street food under $10 d hard to spend $30 even at buffets.

Each to their own , an addiction to salt soft sweet food may have long term health isue.

I have no current data but have walked around shopping Malsl in Prague Copenhagen and Paris thsi year and 3 average lady round 50kg would fit in one the Americans found in every Walmart or Wendys from Gainesville to Tacoma

Not really, after living in Asia for the last 20+ years, I've had all of those iconic Thai foods, many times over. They're just as "homey" to me as a burger. Secondly, prechewed fast food? Oddly enough, I've never seen a food review from someone with your vast amount of worldly experience, only petty commentary, Jeff style.

Tonight's feast will be Greek food. Again, Oddly enough I'm having Greek tonight. Why? Because I can get great Thai food on Bacolod and I've been eating Thai while I'm here. I can't get great Greek food in Bacolod, thus Greek tonight.

How anyone with a choice could settle for burger perhap after Pinoy "cuiine" anythong is an improvement.

The owner being there is probably the key. That cashless thing is a ballache and half as um cash only. ed up buying my milkshakes eleswhere. The Amelie cafe next door but one does a nice shakshukar they serve with a croissant for some reason
