German state demands support for Israel to grant citizenship

If you do not recognise Israel's right to exist, you can forget about acquiring German citizenship in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The state has added the new requirement for applying for citizenship that it must "recognize Israel's right to exist and condemn any effort directed against Israel's existence."

Tamara Zieschang, regional interior minister of Saxony-Anhalt, said the decree was issued at the end of November and stressed that "Israel's right to exist" was a raison d'état for Germany – a fundamental principle of the state.

Although it is currently limited to one Länder, it could become part of a broader debate in Germany, where a citizenship review is planned within a few months.

It's interesting.

I know who this is directed at, but I see it as "limiting the freedom of thought" (if there is such a term)

Second part looks very open for interpretation to me

Jeezus the Germans need to gert past WW2. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's called free speech. Acting on that opinion is another matter.

Don't be so sure. Could be a clever ploy to make Jews feel safe and immigrate there.

I have been there a few times
The allied destruction of Dresden then under the communists heel gives the old DDR a very different feel and outlook to wealthier Bavaria, liberal Rhineland or the Hana towns boom towns like Hamburg or Bremen.Putin was tationed there a long time.
The area is a hotbed of Pegida, AfD and more extreme groups

It's a bit pointless, isn't it? Applicants can believe whatever they want; they just have to say/write or sign to say whatever the minster wants them to. Five minutes later....

when you utter your criticism against some action taken by Israel, and it is deemed a threat towards Israel, they can take your citizenship away and deport you ?.

Don't forget that if you do not love Israel, you hate them.
