Five arrested for spying and accused of breaking the Official Secrets Act

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of spying and breaking the Official Secrets Act, the Metropolitan Police has said.
Three of the five arrested back in February were then charged with possession of false identity documents with improper intention, under section 4 of the Identity Documents Act 2010.


The five arrested include:
• A 45-year-old man at an address in Norfolk
• A 42-year-old man, at an address in west London
• A 32-year-old woman, at an address in central London
• A 31-year-old man, at an address in west London
• A 29-year-old woman, at an address in north London
All five individuals were later released on police bail and are due to return in September 2023.
The Official Secrets Act criminalises espionage by prohibiting certain behaviour that is carried out with a purpose prejudicial to the safety of interests of the UK.

Yes, it does seem rather bizarre, especially as they were caught with false documents.

If so then they need protecting being as the Russians don't take kindly to turncoats. Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia are an example.

Their fate, and the danger in which every citizen of Salisbury was placed, seemed to be of little interest to anyone outside of the UK at the time.

I must say, I couldn't help thinking it would have been different if it had happened in the US.

The Russians have no need to kill anyone in America as the Americans are experts at killing each other and do so on a regular basis.
