On average, 10 people a year die at GC. Heat stroke, heart attack, and of course suicide.
I spent five years, in the early 90s, working at the south rim of the Grand Canyon. One of my jobs was a tour bus driver, taking tourists around the Canyon, and stopping at all the viewpoints. One of my fellow drivers was stopped at one of the viewpoints, one sunny afternoon, when some dude decided to off himself by driving his car over the edge.
