Help Burma - Boycott China (from CL)

As has been said many times here on Teakdoor and elsewhere We can do nothing that is PC to help the Burmese people. So be it then. We just wait and let the UN do their thing, what ever that is.

However, we and the people of this world can take action that will open Chin's eyes and change their attitude and force them to stand up like real people and help their neighbor Burma.

Write to every politician you can. Write to all of your friends and encourage them to write to their friends. BOYCOTT THE OLYMPIC GAMES. DO NOT PARTICIPATE OR ATTEND THE OLYMPIC GAMES. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING MADE IN OR FROM OR BY CHINA. DO NOT TRAVEL TO CHINA. CUT THE FUNDS UNTILL THEY CUT THE BS.

We could see what china said on the UNSC meeting on monday (08 Oct 2007). See the news at below.

We need to organize the people all over the world to boycott the bloody china Olympic. I would like to request to people; if you have any idea of what we can do effectively.

Please ... advice us.

Shall we work together and show to CHINA what is the real power of people all over the world?

^ True, Lily. But China totally ignores human rights in favour of what it wants, and is thinking decades from now for its resources. Human rights? None in China and they don't care about it anywhere its concerns operate, that's for sure. References: the Sudan or anywhere Chinese concerns have laid a stake in Africa or anywhere corrupt/impoverished with lots of natural resources.

a ) you forgot Thailand , if your a local a large part of your electric bill goes to the junta .

b ) the companies in the countries you mentioned are being targeted .

c ) this is China's Achilles heal and many have no qualms exploiting it , moi included .

Because no other organisation other than the Chinese government has any influence over the Burmese dictatorship. If all of the western companies said cheerio, all that would happen is that the Burmese & Chinks would take over those concerns for themselves.

So, is it ethics we are talking about or commerce?

We can hardly insist on China doing the ethical thing (a nation not know for its ethics) while western companies continue to trade and benefit.
It is the western countries who are so proud of their human rights and ethics.

I am not saying that China should do nothing, but they are not alone there.

Please contact one or more of the companies on the Dirty List and ask them to cut their ties with Burma’s military government. If appropriate, tell them you will not purchase their products as long as they continue to support the regime in Burma.

Letters written in your own words are most effective. If you don’t have much time, don’t worry - just one or two paragraphs will do. Please be polite!

We would be grateful if you could send us a copy of any responses you receive.

Of course you're right Lily. Where does Burma get it's money from? It's massive export trade?

Take Burma out around the legs and it IS happening but very slowely Marriot HotelsTriumph International, Accor Hotels and Premier Oil. British American Tobacco's but there are many who probably aren't going to go at all no matter how much pressure is applied, Caterpillar (USA), China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Daewoo International Corporation (Korea), Siemens (Germany), Gas Authority of India (GAIL), GlaxoSmithKline (UK ), Hyundai (Korea), ONGC Videsh Ltd (India), Swift (Belgium), and Total (France).

Take out the props that are holding the Junta up, or perhaps the UN should send another envoy.

seems impossible task. seeing how chinese government reacted in tiananmen square protest in 1989, why would china give a shite on democracy and human rights in burma?

the nation tv programme broadcasted a few nights ago the interview of 3 ambassadors in thailand about the situation in burma and how they see it. mr.boyce from the states, mr.quale from uk and mr.idon'tcarethefuk from china, all interviewed by sutthichai yoon. shot with the question how china government see what they can do to ease the problem, the response from mr.chinese was " the burmese citizen shall themselves find the solution soon"....

thai government also seems reluctant to act on the issue. they claimed that it might affect the relationship between thailand and burma, we are very closed neighbour and connected by long border. the security issue is the concern of thai government as well as the economic one. we still need natural gas from burma. billions are paid for that every year which means it makes the junta even stronger.

imo, the best way to end this unfair game is cutting off the vein that supports burma army government. china and thai government know how, but they wouldn't do cos it means losing their blood too.:(
