Bangkok governor warns misplaced campaign posters will be removed

Election candidates are warned to install their campaign posters at locations designated by the Election Commission, otherwise they may be removed and the candidates may face investigation by election officials.


Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said today that city officials would start checking all campaign posters to make sure that they were installed at the designated locations and that they meet the standard size limit of 130 cm x 245 cm.


If posters are installed at incorrect locations or are larger than the permitted size, the candidates in question will be instructed to remove the posters or the posters will be forcibly removed by city officials and the wrongder will be reported to the Election Commission.


Areas where campaign posters are banned include pavements, traffic islands, pedestrian overpasses, bridge railings, traffic signs, official announcement boards, government buildings and their walls, trees, power poles, bus shelters, public phone booths, police booths, public toilets, Sanam Luang, public parks, roads around the Grand Palace and Chitrlada Palace, the Royal Plaza and Ratchadamnern road.


Governor Aswin also said that the city administration had designated 15 sites for campaign rallies – 10 on the Bangkok side of the Chao Phraya River and five in Thon Buri.


The 15 venues for campaign rallies include the Larn Khon Muang ground in front of the City Hall, Chatuchak park, Queen Sirikit park, Rod Fai park, Lumpini park, Benjasiri park, Seri Thai park, Phra Nakhon park, health park in Prawet district, Ramindra sports stadium, Rama VIII park, Wongwian Yai circle, Chalerm Phra Kiart sports centre and Rama IX youth centre.
