Betong customs checkpoint steps up measures to prevent palm oil smuggling

YALA, 18th November 2018 (NNT) - The Betong customs checkpoint has introduced strict measures to stop palm oil smuggling following the government's policy to tackle the palm oil price drop.

At the Betong customs checkpoint in Yala province, customs officers are inspecting all vehicles transporting goods across the Thai-Malaysian border. The goods must undergo a customs clearance to prevent contraband smuggling, especially palm oil, after people in the area complained that palm oil from Malaysia was being sold in five southern border provinces.

Head of the Betong customs checkpoint Phakphum Lertwatthanarat has instructed customs officers to prevent palm oil smuggling. The checkpoint has regularly seized smuggled palm oil bought for household consumption, said the official.
