Please pass the penis...

It must be great fun learning English.

This morning, as I'm relaxing in the staff room and drinking my first cup of coffee, a female Myanmar teacher approached me and asked:

Teacher Simon, where do I find a web-page about "Please pass the penis?"

'I beg your pardon?' (She was quite attractive, but I wasn't sure she wanted me to whip it out for her....)

"Yes, sentences like please pass the penis, please pass the pepper"

'Oh, you mean a tongue-twister!'

I directed her to suitable web-pages, but I'm still not sure why she chose to use the example of passing a penis

She wanted a web-page with examples like 'Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper'.

I was happy to oblige her .... with the web-page.

She obviously did, but she when talking to Simon43, 'penis" is always uppermost in her mind.

Some examples she may use:
- But a better butter makes a batter better.
- A big bully beats a baby boy.
Both sentences are alliterative because the same first letter of words (B) occurs close together and produces alliteration in the sentence. An important point to remember here is that alliteration does not depend on letters but on sounds. So the phrase not knotty is alliterative, but cigarette chase is not.

She didn't mean alliteration, although her example sentence suggested that.

Tongue-twisters is what she was after, as well as my penis.

edit: here are Tagalog tongue twisters:

Pitumpu't pitong puting tupa (means 77 white sheep - doesn't translate well in English. Tupa = sheep)

Minekaniko ni Moniko ang makina ng minica ni Monika.
(Moniko, a mechanic, mechanized/ fixed the machine "makina" of the minicar of Monika)
