Four days in Kuala Lumpur

i made a quick trip down to KL a couple of months back for work. was stuck at the exhibition two days, and did the touristy stuff two days.

flying Air Asia, i arrived in LCC-T. getting into town from there is very easy. there's a counter at the airport. i took the sky bus, which is RM 9.00, it takes 1 hour 15 minutes to KL Sentral.

took taxi from KL Sentral to the Legend hotel where i was staying, which cost RM 10.00

the Legend hotel is on top of The Mall, lobby is on the 9th floor.

very convenient to get around as PWTC train station on Star Line is just next to the hotel.

no "security guard" blowing whistle

when i was done with work, i moved to another hotel in a more interesting area, Changkat Bukit Bintang.

Replica Inn is a little hotel just before the Radius.

it's clean, cheap, aircon works, location is great as it's just walking distance from Bukit Bintang monorail station. but the single room is very small. :(

back to Changkat Bukit Bintang, lots of traffic in the evening, but it don't matter when you don't drive. :)

after some rest, i went down to the Green Man pub nearby. beer is more expensive. over RM 25.00 for a pint of Kilkenny.

last day, i went to the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC train station) again for Skybridge visit. they don't charge for it, but they hand out limited tickets for each day. no visit on Mondays.

each group has 15 minutes on the Skybridge. people go line up in a queue early everyday, so it's best to go early. ticket counter opens at 8.30AM.

ticket for observation deck is RM 20.00, and they provide MP4 player explaining stuff for each point, also little brochures available in several languages.

Nice place - did 4 years there- the skytrain direct from the arrivals to Sentral is the best bet though - a bit more but only 25 mins or so !

Thanks, Extras. Never been to KL. More Islamic building influence with a great ambience; seems to fit in well with the modern stuff like Petronas -- every time I see those buildings I think of that movie "Entrapment" with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones. :) Looks like most of the signs are in English, so is it like Penang where most everyone speaks three or four languages? Was the food good?

^^ the KLIA Ekspres? don't think they run from LCC-T, though (i didn't arrive in KLIA). the first shift who had been down one day before me told me a local staff suggested i took the sky bus from LCC-T. the express train would of saved a lot of time and pain.

Some nice shots there, I liked the picture of the shophouses.
Singapore used to have hundreds like that, alas most were torn down for redevelopment.

^^ cheers, jet. yeah, i really enjoyed the trip. most people i met spoke passable English, only the older chinese malaysians that seemed to be frightened by the sound of the English language.:) the food was also good. defo worth a visit, this one.

Wow... this picture is brilliants! I took a lot of pictures of this stuff but most of them turned out really shite.

Great pics mate! Brought back some happy memories, KL was my first destination when I arrived in S E Asia. Oh for those care free days!

Comparing KL to BKK or Thailand in general. Whic is the most expensive overall to live in for a period of time such as a few months?

Is the food there similar to the muslim food that you get in BKK?

On arrival, how much time do you get on your visa?

i've been told there was some decent apartment outside the triangle that wasn't too expensive. my mate lived there 8 years ago, and he paid bht 25k for a three bedroom apartment. getting around is rather easy and cheap (on monorail and skytrain). taxi drivers can be tossers though as many of them won't turn on the metre, and ask for flat (and outrageous) rate.

i didn't find the food so bad as i tended to go for familiar looking chinese stuff. :)

i got a 30 day visa exempt stamp. british passport holders got 3 months, though. :england:

There used to be a great old hotel by the train station. Has that been ripped down as well?

I agree with Mr T. Three types of food Malay, rendang and old fish, boring after a couple of days, Chinese, bland, Indian ok but very oily. Never been impressed by the food in KL.

I might do a VISA run there next year, I haven't been there for over 5 years, their Skytrain downtown wasn't even finished back then

KL is a small city and very easy to go around because traffic is light (compared to Bangkok) so taking a taxi you can go everywhere in town for less than 100 THB

Also a lot of good value hotels downtown, Food is ok (it's mostly like South Thailand)

Partying was a bit of a problem outside the happy hours
