Betong gets security boost, after end of emergency decree
YALA, 21st March 2018 (NNT) - Authorities in Betong district in the southern border province of Yala have stepped up security measures, following the revocation of the emergency decree in the area.
Betong District Chief Damrong Deesakul said he has instructed security officials to keep a close watch on suspicious people, vehicles, and objects in the district. Mr. Damrong said security officials will have to work more cautiously in risk areas.
According to security officials, the overall situation in Betong, the southernmost district of Thailand, has improved to the point where a state of emergency is no longer necessary. However, the enforcement of the emergency decree will be extended in the rest of the southernmost region for another three months.
