Emergency Decree extended for 3 southernmost provinces except Betong of Yala

BANGKOK, 16 February 2018 (NNT) – Thailand's Emergency Situation Commission has decided to extend the Emergency Decree in the three southern border provinces by another three months, but has removed Betong district of Yala province from the controlled area in support of economic and social development.

Secretary-General of the National Security Council Gen Wallop Raksanoh announced after the first meeting in 2018 of the Emergency Situation Commission, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, that the panel decided to extend the Emergency Decree for Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani by another three months from March 20 to June 19 2018. The decision marks the 51st extension of the decree.

However, the commission also decided to remove the district of Betong in Yala district from the control of the decree. It will, instead, come under the Internal Security Act after meeting criteria that indicated its situation has improved and in support of the government’s Triangle of Stability, Prosperity and Sustainability agenda. The decisions are to be put to the Cabinet.

The meeting was concluded when the commission acknowledged Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 is managing security operations throughout the region effectively.
